I am 20 years old. Had high test scores, and am very active. I served one year in the Marines. I never got out of SOI. I was going to be a mortarman but got injured in training and went to MRP where...

What you discribe are Sea Lawyers, they have been around for a long time. I am afraid that you will have to wait for your BCD, then attempt to upgrade if allowed to by CMC. The CMC is who will have authority to re-instate you to our Corps. You have three strickes against you I am not sure if it is even possible to re-tread into the Corps. At any rate you will have to wait for about two years before all is said and done.

sorry chief, it sounds like you made your bed. UA, then desertion and then pop on a drug test? You had your second chance after the first UA. Why do you want the Corps to waste more time and money fooling around with you?

After all of the 200+ Marines and Sailors busted on Camp LeJeune around 2000 for Ex. They arent even going to care about a "problem child" that has not even been to the tough part of the Corps yet...come on SOI is easy.

STA...I remember that time...we use to have weekly health and comforts, a Urinalysis twice a week , it was pretty bad. I lived in Horno and there were these barracks known as the cartel. I mean it got so bad some guy got executed on some rifle range by mainside becuz of a drug deal gone bad.

Yeah...I was a "chaser" during that time and it sucked. Escorting all these terds around to their lawyers and stuff...we were pretty mean to them.

It is cetainly a long shot. I waited for five years before my appellate review was completed. You should know however, you do have the right to end your voulntary appellate leave if that is what you are on. Your Commanding Officer has the power to suspend or set aside the sentence at his discretion should you show a good possiblity for rehabilitation. This might be your only shot. It is funny how we make such stupid mistakes at cetain time sin our lives. One thing you want to make very clear with your C.O. is your taking responsibility for your actions and any letters of recommendation and or character from your outift. Were you in SAC if so which company? I may have some resources for you to utilize from the cilivian side of things but they dont come cheap. However, they are very successful in keeping you from getting a BCD. take it from me a BCD is almost a death sentence when it comes to retention or re-enlistment in any branch. Good Luck and Semper FI

Well I appreaciate everyone's input. I know I have committed a terrible thing, and I want nothing more than to repair my military service. I will never forget, nor give up. In fact, does anyone know some of some people I can write (congressman, CMC, HQMC, etc.) ? I just think that during a time of war, there has got to be a way. Not to mention some people are giving the option of either going to jail, or joining the Corps. If they will recruit convicted felons, why won't they take a former Marine who wants nothing more than to honorably serve his country.

Get on with your life young man, you haven't got a prayer in the world of rejoining this Corps.
You had an opportunity to do the right thing and you chose to do the wrong thing. Lack of discipline and integrity on your part is not forgiven by a Corps who holds those things so dear.
You should have thought about your priorities while you were in, not after they bounced your sorry ass out!

You can always write your congressman or ask the CMC for a waiver. If you are still on appellate leave contact NAMALA and ask for a JAG lawyer who is representing you. They will see if there is anything they can do at this point. As long as you are in you can still utilize the JAG services.

Well...........I will never give up.........I know what I did was wrong, but I still wake up everyday proud to have just earned the title Marine. So I will do everything in my power to try and correct this error on my part. I wake up everyday angry at myself for losing my motivation. I was a highly squared away Marine for a while. But I let an injury and low morale get to me.

God Bless everyone in the Armed Forces.

SIR RINDA, sounds like you went into the Corps with a bad attitude and you F**KED yourself. No one forced you to go UA or smoke pot. Where was all this sudden concern for your future when YOU CHOSE TO DO THOSE THINGS? You had a great opportunity and you blew it. For what you have done you will be hard pressed to find sympathy here.

So you let yourself go UA and smoke pot? Doesn't sound like you are angry or have regrets for any of that. At the very least you've let down the Corps and your brother Marines.

Sorry, your choices in life were not the standards that the Corps wants or needs. What happens, if you do get back in, and you hit a rough spot? Sorry, CMC, gotta go!

And is it fair to the squad the you are assigned too? When bullets are flying, will you be there? My bet is no. I feel that if you were allowed back in you will mess up or want out within a year.

Get on with your life. Get some education and find a nice 9 to 5 job.

I have seen many of your type come through Camp Geiger. I work here in the Supply section. Each and everyone of you that are/were students have to come through my shop when you get processed out. Each and everyone of you had the same thing to say: "I made a bad choice". This, in my opinion, is an excuse and a flimsy one at that. I do not want that type of person next to me in a fighting postion. One that lacks the moral courage to take a stand and do what is right. You may have graduated Marine Corps Boot Camp. You may have been told you earned the title of United States Marine. I beg to differ. You earn that title each and every day. Every time you take a stand and do what is right you earn that title. The one time you don't do what is right you no longer deserve to be called United States Marine. When I say this I am not talking about the occassional ass chewing from your superiors. I am talking about DUI, Drugs, Theft, and the more heinous crimes like Murder and Rape.

Since you have known from a very young age that drugs are bad and are not to be tolerated the information passed to you in Boot Camp should have been nothing new. You made a choice to do something that a Marine has been instructed and taught not to do. This leaves you no excuse to say "I made a bad decision".

You and those like you need to stay the hell out of the Marine Corps.

As an old recruiter frined of mine once said, "if Moses parts the Red Sea again, and you are standing there with him, you might ask God For his forgiveness, but the Corps hasn't got any for you lad!". Not everyone is meant to be a Marine, and you are one of them! Just carry on with your life, or try the Army in a couple of years!

If you came here for suggestions, we see a ****bird with regrets, if you want advice, suck it up, you done this to yourself! Without people like you the Corps would only need 50% of the 5800s (MPs) we have now!

Just my 2 cents

A BCD is very hard to overcome. Even in light of the need for troops. It is probably very true that it will be almost impossible for you to get back into the Corps. So, besides owning up to your errors and accepting consequences, the only next thing that you can do to over come this would be to speak with a National Guard Recruiter. The National Guard in some states is so low on recruits that they have wider and more open waivers going on for RE-4. You other guys here mught laugh.... I had too many Old Salts in my life to teach me that you forgive a fellow soldier no matter the uniform. Many a man that would have been considered a criminal or crazy has received many a heroic award or in the heat of battle became that true soldier.

I'm a substance abuse counselor for the VA. I can tell you this, you need to take responsibility for what you did. Whether or not you were in MRP is irrelevant. Two UA's and a dirty drug drop. Nobody ordered you to go UA or to smoke marijuana.

You want to be a Marine. You want to stay in, why now? If you were having difficulties why didn't you talk to one of your NCO's. If you thought you had trouble with Pot, why didn't you seek out counseling. You brought this on yourself. Yeah, you can talk to your congressman, but what good would that do?

Your right you earned the title Marine, but what did you do with it? Bottom line is you violated a trust. You can't fix that overnight like putting a band aid on a bleeding wound. If you are a religious person, I suggest you start praying immediately. Marine, it's time to step up to the plate and take your lumps.

You want to stay in, what price are you willing to pay? Personally, I'm surprised your not in the brig for what you did. You made the choice to go UA, and you made the choice to smoke weed. Now, it seems like you want to choose the consequences of your actions. It doesn't work that way.

The Corps let you enlist, allowed you to carry the title, and to me it seems like you said p*** on that. You want to avoid a BCD and an RE-4. I would suggest you start making immediate amends. You seriously violated a trust, and to earn that back you're going to have to pay a price.
