All your transportation is arranged by MEPS.
Does an Airline take you to the state. then a bus takes you an armory. then a bus from there takes you to Paris Island ?

You are flown to either South Carolina or Califirnia Where ever you are going to boot camp. You will be met at the airport by a Marine who will make sure you get on the bus to take you to MCRD where you will be met by a Drill Instructor at the receiving baracks to start your in processing. you can be there for a couple of days up to a week waiting for a platoon. Thn you will meet your new Daddy and friends.

My MEPS station was only a couple of hours from PI and there was only me and 1 guy left on that bus when we went through the gate that night. That was the longest couple of hours riding that I believe I've ever been on. I chewed all of my nails off (I was going to have to cut them anyway) and that B!TCH wasn't too happy about being awakened late at night for a freakin straggler - WHEW!
So the ride down there is not so casual are you even allowed to talk ?

I went to SD, so your condition may be different. But, of course on the plane you can talk, you won't be under control of the Marine Corps at that point. When we got to San Diego we went to the USO. While there we could talk, have a snack, drink coke, and just be normal people. But then a DI came into the room, and the world changed. He started yelling (but we later learned he was actually being much nicer than your average DI) and made us all go outside. He yelled some more, put is in a 15 passanger van, made us look at the ground- we weren't allowed to look out the windows so of course we couldn't talk- and he took us to MCRD. Once there we jumped on the yellow footprints and our new lives started.

Mine was pretty casual - it was a civilian bus line and we made every stop in every little God forsaken town that ain't on the map between Columbia SC and the Island to drop other passengers off. I could have talked to the guy that was on there with me but............I was too busy being scared and I guess he was too.

We went from LA AFEES center via bus to MCRD San Diego.
Ate our last civilian meal and called MCRD the guy that answered the phone went off on us telling us not to talk, smoke, chew gum,not to be looking around and to stand against the wall of the bus station. They picked us up (4) in a dog catcher pickup and made us sit at attention (they explained how to do it) we then went to the airport and waited for a plane full of new recruits to arrive (endless and boring) we then were put on the bus with the new arrivals and finally arrived at the yellow footprints were all hell broke loose. Funny note: when we were at the range pulling butts the Sgt that picked us up at the bus station was our verifier and he was hung over to the max, he would moan and complain as the rounds were going through the target I thought hope it hurts like hell LOL
