Hey guys, Im intrested in USMC Recon. I want to go throught the Delayed Entry Program. and eventualy get into the Recon field. It is my understanding that many new Marines do not make recon their first time through.

Would you suggest that I chose a new field like Infantry or somthing along those lines and wait until a spot opens up to go into recon or re-enlist as 0321 after a few years of service ?

Also how would one go about getting into the FAST unit ?

You can go for an 0321 contract...but I have said this before...and this is coming straight from RECON bubbas' mouths...THEY DONT LIKE YOU! The guys that run RIP and do the INDOC will do all that they can to wash you out. These guys are foundations of tradition and they feel that all should earn the spot in BN. the same way that they did...the old school way. by first being a Marine...an experienced operator in the field, THEN taking the INDOC. How much do you guys that keep saying you want to be RECON, really actually know about RECON? I say go 03, then take the INDOC....but then I guess I just believe in old school. You had to be a proven operator to get into our Platoon!

STA is 1000000000% correct. Go be a grunt, take the INDOC. If you pass you'll be on your way. You don't need a contract to get you there, and its all on you one way or the other. However, if you do it as STA is telling you to do, you won't be fighting the people that decide if you are going to become a dual cool recon bubba.

If You Want To Go To Recon, Earn It And Go To The Indoc Like The Guys That Are There Now. Go 0311, Earn A Place There And Then Take The Indoc On Thurs Like Those Who Earned Their Place In Recon. Besides, By Working 03 You Are Going To Have Experience That The Others Dont Bring To The Table. The Indoc Is Only The First Phase, There Are Many, Many, Many Other More Challenging Steps After The Indoc. The Indoc Only Shows Whether Or Not You Have What It Takes To Attend The Training. Passing The Indoc Is No Guarantee That You Will Earn Your Place Among The Men Of Recon. Good Luck.

For all you RECON "wannabees" go to the web sitr FORCERECON.ORG. There is a link that will take you to an article about RECON Training. It spells out what the training consists of and what "special" schools you can apply for after RIC. You will NOT go to Force Recon until after some years in the Battalion. Even if you become an 0321, don't forget The needs of the Corps comes first. With an 0321 (8654 Secondary) I spent several years with regular infantry units.

My advise----become a Marine first, then SOI stay Infantry. If you like it and a good at it then submit an AA Form requesting RECON.

PS--PT your back side off. Try running 5 to 10 miles dailey with a 65 pound ruck.

Errr there Marine, (bigdog43701) I tried a PM but it wouldn't allow that.

Why is it that all these freakin' wannabes keep posting about becoming Recon Marines when they aren't even Marines yet? I have said 'til I am blue in the face that they need to focus on becoming Marines first and then become proven performers and then attempt Recon Indoc. which of course is how I had to do it. You didn't have the guarantee of a shot at indoc like they offer now. You earned the right and had to be recommended etc...I just wish they would stop worrying about becoming the elite of the Marine Corps and focus on becoming Marines. Oh, I was with 1st Recon Batt. ( Charlie Company) and then ended up with 1st Force Recon 1st Platoon. Did you do you spend anytime with Force or did you stick to Batt.?

Well its ASK A MARINE. Thats what I have the right to do. If you dont like it dont reply. Im asking for information nothing more nothing less. Im not the first to ask about it and im most likely not the last.

The point in me asking about it is to get as much information before I Join the corps. The reason im confused is because its an enlistment option but I dont know if I want to enlist as 0321 or gain experince before hand. So why not ASK A MARINE ?

If your'e going to join the Marines, you'd better have thicker skin than that!!!! You are getting to see just what Marine Corps tradition actually is!!!!!! Just say "Thanks Marine" and let it go at that, and all will be well!!!
Good luck on your enlistment. Make sure your head is on straight when you go to boot camp. A lot of the poeple that flunk out do it not because of the physical, but the mental aspects of the training.

That was just so wrong...................one thing you younger ones need to learn is when to keep your mouth shut. Ya'll always want the last word.................you can't be doing that to a DI - he'll have you for dinner and kicked out the front gate as fast as you came in it. There have been 100 plus come in and ask the same question and it's been broadcast all over the place - all you have to do is SEARCH.

And, just for future reference, if you don't like what a Marine tells you - go somewhere else.

Look at this web site, pretty good article. Just a little hint for ya here though from a Marine... Don't get too loud here. I see this on all of the post boards that I am a member of. Many of these guys, such as myself give out the info many times. Google is an awesome tool, yet nobody seems to use it. That web site above is good insight into the history and training of the Force Guys, but you need to focus on becoming a Marine first. Don't concentrate on desert before you order dinner.

Ive learned from this post, Its a layed back forum. I should be able to ask a question without being attacked. afterall what is the point in us "Younger" Members to have an account here if "Need to keep our mouth shut". DIs Train people that have made a decision im trying to make my decision before I get to the DI.

J4k3, you are asking a question that to a Marine is tantamount to asking to drive the train when you are just considering trains as a possible career. You don't get to drive the train until you have learned how and until you sweep a floor or two you aren't going to become the CEO, either.

My point being that you are asking how to be principal of the school, or in charge of the athletic program when you haven't even entered college to earn you teacher's degree yet.

Is being recon possible? Yes it certainly is, however it is something that you EARN and it is not just given to any wise acre who asks for it. When you have served your time and earned the way, then you may apply for recon. If you are lucky maybe you will be selected for indoc, and if you are even luckier you will get through indoc and become a full recon Marine...

Awesome point, Camper. Im going to go Infantry for a 4yr enlistment as an Assaultman. Going straight off the bat recon would be a big mistake on my part because I dont know where Ill go if I wash out. Ill be competing with the best so why not get as much experince as I can.

Everyone here I know you mean well and I have learned so mch from everyone on the site. I dont mean to snap at you. Thanks for everything.
