Say I make through Bootcamp, then MOS training. What would a normal week for a rifleman be like? What exactly are you doing all day when your not in a combat situation? Thanks...

Be more specific...there is Field life and there is Garrison life. Field life....usually sucks, but Garrison life is even worse.

I disagree STA. I hated Garrison life. You are more alive in the field. I garrison you have to put up with all the BS. In the field its just you and your surroundings.

That is why I said Garrison is WORSE! I have some of my best memories in the field, stalking and messing with the line companies, but at the same time it gets very old after a while. 8 years of being cold and wet was enough for me. Garrison is the worst though...you do stupid stuff like get Land Nav lessons from Butter Bars...LOL LOL. Lots of weapons maintenance / hurry up and wait time.

Some twenty years ago I spent my first two years as a 0311 rifleman. Your day to day duties pretty much start out the same as everyone else’s. wake up, get dressed, clean up the squad bay / room and any other areas that you and or your unit is responsible for and dump the trash. Head to the chow hall then head back for formation.
Depending where your unit is on its cycle ie. Training, deployed or in stand down your schedule varies a lot.
In the training cycle you and your unit will be getting ready for deployment. This means lots of equipment inspections. Weapons, vehicle and gear maintenance and cleaning. You will spend a lot of time out in the field practicing maneuvers, exercising and doing humps (hiking). Lots of range time in this cycle for weapons, movement and tactics training.
In the deployment cycle you will be deployed either by mass air transport from your main base to somewhere in the world or by ships probably west pac or med floats. When deployed you can find yourself in any of our current hot spots like Iraq or just floating around in circles in the middle of some ocean as a ready force. This is just luck of the draw and depends on which unit your assigned to.
The stand down cycle is after your unit returns from deployment. This is when you will likely be able to take leave and or be temporarily assigned more casual duties like working at the E-Clubs, weapons ranges, base special services or even something like MP’s. Units in stand down phase also take care of the camps guard duties, mess duties and area maintenance (mowing, painting ect.). This is also the phase where many will be getting discharged and replaced by new Marines.
There really is no one set day to day plan for a 0311or for that matter any other MOS in the Corps. Even the three cycles I described are more guidelines then set in stone laws of the Marines but when possible they are how most units operate. Each cycle is six months however the deployment cycle may go much longer and the training and stand down time may be much shorter depending on wars, occupations and such.
During the course of a week you will likely clean your rifle for two to four hours, run for 2 to 3 hours. Spend 6 to 20 hours cleaning other stuff and spend about 5 to 10 hours standing in formation. You will spend a few hours doing other miscellaneous stuff like washing vehicles and will likely go on 1 to 2 hikes ranging in distance from 5 to 20 miles and some even a lot longer.
0311 does not mean that you will automatically go to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF). You may end up going to any one of many different units long before you ever see the FMF. You may go to Embassy Duty, Barracks Duty or something entirely different for a few years though the majority will go to the FMF. If they have a lot of 0311 and are really short in some other MOS you may even end up going to another school entirely different depending on the Corps needs at the time.
I hope this answers some of your questions.
Good luck and Semper Fi
