The link above is to a web page that I made on Recon.
I will be upgrading it to include the Radio Recon Platoon
Out of each Radio Battalion of each Marine Division.
I trained as a Recon Marine, first with 1st Recon in 1961.
October of 1962 saw my Recon Platoon and the rest of the 1st Marine Division traveling to-wards Cuba during the "Missiles of October".
We were lucky if that what you want to call avoiding a nuclear war.
Some time in the early part of 1963
I got orders to report to Bravo Company 3rd Recon
which was then at K-Bay Hawaii
Part of 3rd Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Brigade.
About the early part of March of 1965,
The 1st Marine Brigade got orders to proceed to Vietnam.
The Brigade made a stop on Okinawa,
It was than that the infantry line companies
Found themselves short of Non-Commissioned-Officers (NCOs).
Seeing that I was a Corporal at that time.
I got orders to report to India Company 3rd Bn 4th Marines,
To become a squad leader, the needs of the Marine Corps,
Where greater than my needs.
So with everybody else, I now stand in awe,
Of what my follow Recon Platoon members,
Did in Vietnam and all the other Recon Marines that followed..
Those are my credits of three years of being a Recon Marine...
I understand what it takes to achieve the title of a Recon Marine,
And what it means.
You have to be highly motivated and a highly dedicated Marine.
If you have any questions that I might be able to answer,
Feel free to ask, if I don't know the answer,
I will seek some information.
Recently I E-Mailed the web master
Of the 3rd Recon Battalion in Vietnam.
I'm sure, he will give me as much information as we need...
