Maj. Gen. Jerry D. Humble, a two-star general in the U.S. Marines Corps, was named director of the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security by Gov.-elect Phil Bredesen yesterday.

Humble, who retired Jan. 1 after 33 years of active duty, most recently served as commanding general of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command in Quantico, Va.

Throughout his career, Humble led efforts in security and counterterrorism, according to Bredesen's office. He has commanded at every level, including the Marine division.

''Jerry brings a long and distinguished record of protecting our nation,'' Bredesen said. ''Tennessee is fortunate to have a leader with such broad experience to lead our homeland security efforts.''
