The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund
Posted by Hugh Hewitt | 6:02 PM

An early morning visit to Camp Pendleton began with breakfast with a senior officer in the 1 MEF, followed by a visit to the Wounded Warrior Center, established this past July near the base hospital. It is a residence facility for Marines recoverng from wounds received in Iraq and Afhanistan, and it is a tremendous facility, constructed and furnished largely with doantions to serve the Marines who have been wounded serving us. One young Marine has just completed rehab from injuries suffered to his legs from an IED and was upbeat and looking forward to an afternoon flight home for a visit to the Chicago suburbs. It is a first class center, right down to crucial details such as handmade quilts on every bed which the Marines take with them when they go home.

The facility still needs some donations (and if you manufacture the equipment that allows for automatic door opening, please get in touch with Wendy Lethin as the wheel-chair bound shouldn't have to struggle with the center's doors or their rooms' doors), but it is close to fully equipped.

What is needed now, and not just at Camp Pendelton but wherever Marines are recovering from their injuries, are funds for family assistance.

Since its foundation in 2003, the Injured Marine Sepmer Fi Fund has distributed cash grants to families of recovering Marines who want to be with their husband or wife, son or daughter but who lack the financial ability to make that happen. The Fund not only supports specific recovery needs such as special equipment, but also the financial assistance requests that flow out of the recovery effort. The needs can be particularly demanding when the injured Marine faces a long recovery such as those in a burn center or a spinal cord injury rehab program.

So the Fund needs you help in the form of cash donations. You can contribute online here at their website.

Or you can mail a check to:

Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund

825 College Blvd, Suite 102

Oceanside, CA 92057

Or just pick up the phone and call Wendy Lethine, the director of business operations at the Fund at 760-390-4930. Her fax is 760-725-3685. Her e-mail is wlethin@semperfifund.org.

Her office is inside the Wounded Warrior Center, so you be assured that your donation is going to a group that is providing direct assistance to the folks who need it. Since the Semper Fi Fund's opening in 2003, more than 1600 USMC families have received assistance. Please help it to continue to help those wounded in the war.
