When the Marines on here say to do your research before you ask a question, they aren't kidding. I'm shipping in 12 days, on Oct. 8. Of course, I bet ya'll knew that from my handle. Anyways, I'm trying to gain all the knowledge I can so I'm up looking through these fourms late at night just reading. Pretty much any and every question I've wanted an answer to has been answered. I guess the only questions that haven't been answered are those that sound something like: "What will boot camp be like?" I'm betting it can't be answered, its something you have to experience.

The Marines who post on this site have been a great help to me. I thank each and every single one of you for any input you've offered, because chances are I've read something you've posted and kept a little piece of it for myself. Also, the information that has been posted has not only helped me, but also has helped ease my mother's mind a little. She is 100% against me joining, but only because she is concerned for my safety, which is understandable, she is a mother. She'll come around... eventually. ;)

I cannot wait to earn the title of United States Marine.

I think part of the "fun" so to speak of going to bootcamp would be the unknown, questions like, "what will boot camp be like?" can't and really shouldn't be answered, imo.

Boot camp is meant to primarily train you for war, but also pull you out of your comfort zone with the unknowns. When/if you ever get into a combat situation you won't have a manual called, "how things happen, what happens and how you should deal with it." It's unknown and I think boot camp should remain unknown for the most parts because it's being out of your comfort zone for 13 weeks that really trains you for being out there for 8 months.

That's easy to answer.

Q. What will boot camp be like?
A. Boot camp.

I was just making a point, that most every question you could want an answer to has been answered, you just have to look. I don't even want to know necessarily what boot camp will be like, because I want to experience it for myself. Besides, I think that Recruit Training is probably a little different for each person that goes through, so chances are my experience is going to differ from anybody else's.

It will be the most traumatizing, hellish 3 months of your LIFE! However, 20 years down the road you'll be able to look back on it and laugh like we all do.

As a Mom I know exactly how your mom feels. You need to point her here. There are Marines and other moms that look out for us too and encourage us while our recruits are in boot. There are also other sites specifically aimed at supporting us parents.

Don't worry, I'm sure your mom is busting her buttons with pride, but at the same time it is only natural for her to be worried about her "baby".

Good luck and God Bless

I didn't even think about the Drill Instructor seeing me and memorizing my name and ship date. :scared: Dang, already noticed before I got there! Not like you could miss me anyways, I've already been forwarned by my recruiter, I'll be picked out very quickly. Should have just painted a big target on my head and posted a sign on my back that said "Shoot Me!" Well, thanks for the "good luck" anyways, sir. For some reason, now I KNOW I'll need it. Well, g'night.

Yes you will get a little more attention now. I will be the one to give you stories to write home about so look at the bright side. One question for you though...We do not have any recruits coming on 08 October. The first date recruits arrive for FY07 is 10 Oct. They are taking you two days early to MEPS????

Well, on my contract is says 2006/10/08, and I'm going to MEPS Thursday to take and IST and get a Med Inspect. Then I'm supposed to go on Sunday and ship Monday morning, early. That's what I've understood from my recruiter. I know that's my ship date though, says so on all my papers. And he's given me a full itenerary of how next week (beginning with Thursday) is going to be. Are there a lot of recruits comming at that time maybe, and they are trying to get some processed early? Thanks for bringing that to my attention though, sir. I'll be sure to ask my recruiter about it.

You are a short timer Poolee Smith, I appreciate your comments on the researching the knowlege here before posting. Dont worry about drillinstructor, if he cant break you he will make you a basic Marine. Just in case you missed this knowlege give it a peek, its the questions that you will see on your 3rd phase knowlege test.

Good luck to you and give it 110%, I hope to see you back here in 13 weeks as a US Marine.

I figured out why I thought I was going to MEPS on Sunday... my recruiter told me Sunday because thats the normal day to get started, but MEPS will be shut down this Sunday, so basically, I get an extra day. Well, see ya'll in three months, I probably won't be on the computer much in the next 3-4 days. Got other stuff to do.

According to former Poolees he actually greets Leatherneck.com members at the bus and escorts them to the VIP Quarters at receiving.

I'm guessing jinelson that the "VIP" quaters is not the VIP quarters I would expect is it?
