Woooo Hooooo!!!! Minnesnowta is in a heat wave :D it got up to 45 degrees today, which is very unusual for Minnesota this time of year, half way through the month of December we barely have any snow on the ground and they're already warning people to stay off the ice cause it's not thick enough yet, I don't know if thats good or bad :confused: anyway I'll have a shot and a beer. :banana:

OK so I don't live where its cold , And we get very little snow. But where I live now , it rains like hell . I get to ride my Harley every day of the year. Although There was a couple years I did have to take a car> Due to some snow , but mainly ice. I have gone down a couple times that I got hurt , and I've gone down a few times when I didnt get hurt. Thats just the way I choose to live my life. I always am looking out for the other guy , and usually I see trouble before it sees me. But I am getting older and I cant push my luck forever. So maybe next year I'll get a car. I just don't wanna feel old when I do. Today I was out in it, the temp was in the 40's and it was raing hard. I accomplished all I had to do . In '73 I was a troubleshooter for the recruiting service. I would spend a week at a time visiting recruiters in Washington, on both sides of the mountains. I was there in various times of the year.

I never saw snow, but it was an unusual hour or two if I ever saw the sun. It was either rain, or the promise of rain.

The dreariness of the place had a definite effect on the recruiters and their wives.

A image struck me as we came through the shvt clouds and were landing in SF. The cars were multi-colored. Housing tracts in Daly City and San Bruno had blue, brown, yellow, green, trim.

The sun was shining so brightly I put on my sun glasses.

It was like the beginning of the original movie of Alice In Wonderland. For effect, the movie started in black and white, and then, at the appropriate time, switched to Technicolor.

That has been my lasting impression of Washington State.

On later trips, visiting recruiters and their families, I pointed this observation to them, and they ALL agreed with me.

They all wanted to get out of there and back to where the sun shone and lit up a Technicolor world. (Wherever they were from)

Of course, that's just MY opinion.

Thats pretty much the cencus around here. Although this has been one of the driest years in history. Now we welcome the rain. Something about the resivours being to dry and power costing more. But they sell our extra power to California and charge us more for what we get. Dont make no sence. Who's getting richer. Yea it rains alot here and I'd like to be home in New York where it snows like hell every winter and is colder then a dog turd , but I really cant remember a place that I lived that I didn't find something wrong with it. And yes the suicide rate in the Seattle area is higher than anywhere else in the U.S. , because of that gray look to the place (cloudy all the time) ,but dammit , I can ride every day of the year , almost. Alright , where the fvck did everybody go ? Oh a note , its from Gary , gone ridin , be back when I get back . Hope he remembers the Pepsi . I dont wanna hear his excuses , couldnt stop and pick up some cause I was on the bike . I have a riding buddy , who was Army , great friend . Anyways he has a Harley , a Night Train . Were on our way to see another friend
and hes asked to pick up 2 case's of beer . We go to the store and get the cases and a roll of duct tape . I taped one to his front , and one to his back .He held a case to his chest , and I went around him with the tape til he was secure .Then I got another customer to hold the second one to his back , and I went around him til that one was secure . He hadnt been drinking so we were not worried about the cops . But the looks on everyones face when we pulled up to the buddies house , priceless .
Then one time , not long after I got out of the Corp , and in my drinking days , I'm at a get together with some friends and I'm on my Flatty (Harley) , before I put her back stock . I had a 6" over springer front end , and a little set of saddlebags on her . The bags could hardly hold more than a carton of cigs. Anyways they decide I'm not as drunk as everyone else and send me to town for a pizza . I go and get it , now how am I gonna get it home . Well me bein the smart Marine that I am , I fold the pizza in half and stick it in my saddlebag . I get it home and its all there , just most of it stuck to the lid . When I was in the philippines I was introduced to San Miquel . I just wasn't ready for the San McGooey's . After a few days and your body adjusted , things were back to normal . The philippines was the first place I had ever drank beer over ice . The Mojo wasn't bad either . I just don't know how I made it back to base some nights . I did have a good experience in the Philippines , its where I bought my first Harley . I also remember the laundromats on base there , They had beer machines . After 1 1/2 months at sea , it only took 1 beer to get you feeling good . Ah to be young again .

I read today what happened from the Marine Corps point of view, when my squad leadr was killed. The tears are there hidden and being held back, but it made me proud of the effort the Corps did that day, to try to get to us and support us when Ron Moore was killed in combat. I only glanced at what is written, it'll take some time to read it without going back to that time.

This is just a little note to let you know why I have been missing in action for a couple days . I was hit by a car while riding my motorcycle the other day . I almost lost my nose , because of the way I landed on my winshield . I recieved 16 stiches to save it . I had been wanting to put some scars on my face anyways , because I've noticed I'm getting to good looking . I just didn't want to get the scars that way . I also sprained my wrist , my throttle hand . Other than that I'm ok , besides my pride being hurt . My bike however did not fair so well . Its gonna take time and money to get her back together again . More time than anything , cause I still aint working .
I probably won't be on here very much for the next couple days , and your all probably thinking , thank God for that . But never fear , you cant keep a good Marine down .

Thank you all , I hurt for a minute , but I'm a Marine . I just think I have a harder head than most . I went looking today and found a fender and a Windshield so that will make her look somewhat normal again . I had her up over 100mph today and it doesnt feel like I have any front end damage . So I think I got lucky on that one . I did however start smoking , I think I took a hard hit to the noggin . Guess I'll go back on the patch . i do need a Pepsi though . I filled Chesty's bowl so he'll be ok for about 10 minutes .
Another good thing , is I get my stitches out tomorrow . Just the little things in life that make it worth living .

Got my stitches out and am doing fine besides a bruised ego . Had to pour myself a tall Pepsi on that one ... BURP ! This coming weekend I will have my new fender and windshield on , I feel great about that , got a couple scratches to tend to also . They got a hit and run on the guy that hit me , so maybe a new paint job , plus some other minor damages maybe taken care of also . I did change the sparkplugs , and now she purrs like a kitten .
What I came in here tonight for , besides that tall Pepsi , was to know if someone can lead me to that post about the memorial of the hanging dogtags from VietNam . I've looked all over and can't remember where it was posted . I have this girlfriend who wants to donate her fathers . Thanks for your help , and your concern for this brother Marine.

Just come in tonight to tell a good story . I have this Marine buddy , and we have been friends for about 10 years now . And he is constantly reminding me that I'm a boot . He was in from 62-66 , and proudly calls himself a Brownshoe Marine .

He was in 1/7 Delta Co. , in Chu Li 65-66 . His name is John Weber , we call him Tony . He was a machine gunner , and his a-gunner was Ray Chesney .

These two captured 26 NVA and Chinese high ranking officials . Tony spots them hiding in the brush , stops and looks in the direction until Ray spots them . Tony tells Ray , if they make a move , I'll go right to left , you go left to right and we'll mow them down . They call them out of the bush and they are scared sh*tless . These 2 captured them without a fight . Took them back to this SSgt . name unknown . This SSgt. comes to Tony and Rar and say's if you sign this paper so I can get the Silver Star , I'll sign one so you guy's get the Bronze Star . Needless to say , no one was awarded a Star .

Another incident that happened over there , Tony and Ray were crossing a river , with a pretty strong current . Tony isn't all that big , and at the time he may have weighed 150lbs . Anyways , carring the Machine Gun and whatever else they had , the current takes Tony . Ray jumped in and saved his buddies life . Which is something Tony talks about often .

He was always talking about how he would like to talk to Ray after all these years .

Since November 19 , 2001 , Tony has had 5 heartattacks . The latest one was last monday . October I start visiting all the Marine sites , something with a locator ability . I went into 1/7's website . I went to the white pages for Ray's last known location , and let me tell you , I got hours into this , plus about 40 phone calls as well . Now I'm calling from the Seattle area to Michigan , Alabama , Ohio , with no results . Finally I decide to call the Police Department of his last known location . They tell me , Oh , Ray just retired from the force . Now I'm thinking , this ain't the same guy . I know Tony , and Ray was his best bud .

They tell me to write a letter to Ray , put it in an envelope and put my return address , Ray's name and a stamp . Put that letter in another envelope , with a letter why I want this to go to Ray . Then send it to their Retired Police and Firefighters association . I figured If this wasn't the right Ray , being an officer he would have ways to find the right one . So I send this letter off right after the first of January . I figured I have to do something fast because I don't know how much longer Tony will be with us .

Yesterday I get a call about 8:30a.m , from the Police here where I live . They asked me if I knew a John Weber , I said yes . They told me they were at his home , I freaked out . I yelled , is he ok . They told me to calm down , everything was fine , but they had gotten a call from a Policeman from another state and thought we were trying to pull some kind of scam . I asked who the Cop was and they said Ray Chesney . Now I'm excited , and I say no sh it you found him . He says he doesnt have a clue what I'm talking about , so I explain the situation . They said Tony wasn't there at the time , then I remembered he had an appointment at the VA . So I tell this cop to have Ray call me , I give my name and number , and the officer said it would be his pleasure .

About an hour and a half go by before Ray calls me . He is real apprehensive , and I can tell he's a Cop , because of the Questions he's asking me . Which I can't figure out because the information in the letter I sent him is only something he and Tony would know . And all the information he's asking me is , where do you live ? What's your phone number ? Who wrote this letter ? Tell me about Tony , stuff like that . So I ask for his number , he was reluctant to give it up but he did . He give me a time to call him today , I contacted Tony last night and told him to meet me in the morning at 10:30 .

This morning I got , and actually think I was more excited than Tony . I go meet Tony at 10:30 and immediately call Ray . Ray wants my number I'm calling from , still thinking its a scam . I just hand the phone to Tony , you could tell within the first 10 seconds I had reunited 2 old Jarhead buddies . The smile that came over Tonys face , PRICELESS !

They talked for about 10 minutes and Tony had to go to another VA appointment . He told Ray he would call him as soon as he got back from the VA .

6:00 tonight he called Ray , no answer but the answering machine kicked on . Tony left a number and told Ray he was house setting for another month and give him a call . 2 minutes after Tony hung up , the phone rang , it was Ray .

Tony said they talked for about 45 minutes , Tony said he felt like he was 37 years younger . He couldnt thank me enough , and he wanted to get me something for all the time I spent looking for Ray . He said I want to take you out and get you fvcked up but you don't drink . What do you want , I said , your Friendship . He said , hell you had that years ago , and I said , than thats good enough . Tony is my Older Salt Marine Brother . To me , thats what being a Marine is all about .

The iorny of this , is that when Tony got out of the Corp , he became an Outlaw Biker , Ray became a Motorcycle Cop .

Well I see someone resupplied the Pepsi , thank you kindly .
Why does Chesty always look at me like that . I thought you guys said you taught him to open his own beers , he's always bossing me around .

Ray, the cop seems more than just a little bit paranoid, a case of caution taken to the extreme.

He mellowed out after talking with Tony . He said he sounds the same as when they were together . I'm assuming Ray don't smoke . Tony , on the other hand has that gruffily voice from years of self abuse . I guess after the years after being a Motorcycle Cop (Harley's) , he was also a detective . I'm assuming it goes with the job . He spent 26 years on the force . And I asked Tony to ask Ray tomorrow , Rays calling Tony again about 10:30 a.m , why the interigation . I'll find out , any ways I just think its the coolest thing since sliced bread .

Howdy folks

Think I'll have me a Pepsi with Chesty and tell you a little more about Tony and Ray .

Well I found out why Ray was so apprehensive , and I was right , I was because he had spent so many years as a Policeman . It was just natural instinct . Some things just stay with you . I guess .

They talked about capturing those 26 NVA and Chinese high ranking officials . They both admitted today , how scared they were . Tony says thats the day they they became Marines . Also said , another reason they did not get any medals , is because there were no shots fired . The SSgt . in question was SSgt . Wright , and added he was always wrong . Said they had the whole Bn. looking for them , and Tony and Ray stumbled on them . He said what clued them in is that they saw a bunch of Crab remains , and knew somebody had breakfast . Also the feeling you get , you don't know where it comes from , but it makes your senses come to life . They said when this SSgt. Wright come around a corner and seen those 2 with their weapons drawn , he assumed they were fvcking around , and started chewing the 2 out . That is until he got closer and everything came into view . They said old SSgt . Wright was scared sh itless . SSgt . had a under arm holster on and was so scared he couldn't grab his weapon . They said they just screamed at the SSgt . to go get help . Said he was running like a scared puppy .

Well old Ray is married with 4 kids , only married once . Tony was married 4 times and only had 1 kid (that he knows of ) .

Ray told Tony that he goes to church every Sunday , Tony says he left his religion in Viet Nam . This is a touchy subject for Tony , he says there was a Catholic Priest over there that would look at your Dogtags to see if you were Catholic . If you were he wanted to grab his boys and have services , if you were not , you were not allowed . Thats when Tony gave it up , he told the priest what difference does it make , we are all brothers . So Tony told the priest what he could do with his religion , and hasn't been to church services since . Ray said I'll go to my church and pray for you . You know Tony , you ought to go . Tony said no thanks . Ray said , just go and step into the front door . Tony said I won't do that either , but I will drive by a church , and honk twice . Ray said , good enough .

Tony wanted me to ask you guys if anyone knew a Marine correspondant , by the name of Dickie Shapel . Said she did alot of time in Korea , and he believes she was killed in March of 66 , while she was with 1/7 .

Now I'm gonna shut up now , but before I do I wanna say thanks , to First Sgt. Mike and Art .

Yea I remembered to fill Chestys bowl , he got some nasty beer farts .:D

I AGREE COMPLETLY! Earle is one Marine I not only want to work with in the field, I would want him as a friend and buddy everywhere else too. Now, I don't often feel that way. As a few of you may be aware, Earle and I can certainly have a good fun time with a battle of words. He doesn't back down and neither do I. Neither one of our Jarheads can be changed.

But if there is one Marine I'd be willing to go that extra mile for, and that is Earle.

Thank you JChristin for the kind words , I got your back as well . This is actually the 2nd friend I have found for that Old Salt Marine . The first one I found on 1/7's website , I just printed out the list of Marines that logged in 1/7 (16 pages ) and took him the list . Out of all the Marines that had logged in and were in the same time as Tony , he only knew 1 .
This guy was easy , he had a web address . So I e-mailed him and asked him if he knew Tony , with a little extra info that these 2 would know . 2 days latter I get an e-mail back . So happens that this guy lives just over the mountain from us , about 70-80 miles .
So in December Tony is going to take a trip over . On the way Tony gets a flat tire , and because of his physical situation , he can't change the tire . A trucker had stopped to change his tire , but the spare wasn't much better .
Tony decides he better play it safe and go back home . So I call up his buddy Burt and tell him what happened . Tony was stuck on the Freeway for a good 3 hours before the trucker stopped . Anyways , I made plans with Burt to take Tony to go see him in March . This time , I'm driving , Burt says I'm welcome anytime .
It meant alot for Tony to talk with Burt , But nothing compared to when he finally got to talk with Ray . I'll fill you all in as things happen .
Again JChristin thanks for the kind words , what a difference a week makes . But we were having fun and it aint over yet .

Well I just left Tony and he still all smiles , he just can't get over that someone would do that for him .

This whole thing with Tony and Ray got me to thinking . We all know someone who was a Marine . And there are alot out there like Tony . Tony don't have a phone or computer , so they can't locate a lost brother from years gone by . If you can spread the word about this site , and even Bn. sites . Just about every Bn. has there own site . I have logged into 1/3 and 1/4 in hopes of finding a brother . If we could help out these Marines , I believe this would be a good thing .

If they don't have a computer , we could put their name in on a special page of this site . Just try to find out as much info about them you can , to post it for them . Just trying to post as much as I can , to help these guys out .

I found 2 guys for Tony , but can't find any brothers I served with .
I went to thefew.com , to look for my old Plt. Sgt . His name is W.O. K.E. Lyons . I found he had logged in but no phone number .
I tried there phone book and came back with 160 listings for K E Lyons . His last known duty was Kaneohe .
