Several hundred Marines and sailors of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade left Camp Lejeune on Saturday in response to a deployment order that finally came.
The group’s command element includes Marines and sailors from II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, 8th Communication Battalion, 2nd Intelligence Battalion, 2nd Radio Battalion, 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company and a Marine liaison element.
Members of the ground combat element include the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment; the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment; and the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment.
The 2nd Marine Regiment’s 2nd Battalion already is deployed to the Indian Ocean with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
