View Full Version : Update
Well, after being 72 lbs lighter then the day that I set out to be a Marine (Day after Thanksgiving), I finally made it down to MEPS. Everything went smoothly, even the 4:30 wake up, I took the ASVAB, got an 86 or 89 on it, forget which one. Passed the physical and all that jazz, then I was set aside. I have a pectecomy or something like that, basically, i have an inverted chest, so I had to go to the hospital and have an xray and have to come back and then see a cardiologist (heart doctor) then finish signing and swearing. The Liason said it should not be a problem to still have my contract in tact, which is 92 Day Reservist, 0311 Split Option. Ship out date is going to be set for 20070514. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

Congrats Hawks.
Wait to go on making it through and getting over the hurdles.
Just out of curiosity, whats a "92 day reservist"??
Also, whats your 0311 split option consist of? Like whats the split part mean?
Thanks.
Right now I am a junior at the University of Iowa, so I want to join the Marine Corp, and I want to join the Reserve (as of now), I also do not want to miss any school, so I can fill a family obligation of graduating school, so with the 92 Day Reservist Program I go to boot camp int he summer, come home, go to school, do the one weekend a month, then the next summer, go to SOI. 0311 Split Option is just MOS I chose, Infantry Rifleman and Split Option is the same as 92 Day Reservist.

I'm not positive, but I would think it would be highly unlikely that you would deploy until you've completed SOI. You won't be properly prepared to do so. After that, your thoughts of just having 2 days a month and 2 weeks in the summer may not work out, because they can always tell you that its time to go.
i know that i can be called up at any time, and that is ok with me. thats what im signing up for. im not making it sound like i just do one weekend a month, 2 weeks a year because that doesnt always happen. and yes you can be deployed right out of boot camp. a few people in that unit i have talked to had similiar situations like me, and didnt attend soi.

Thats kinda scary. No proper training and getting thrown in the fight? Thats kind of intense. Boot camp doesn't teach you fighting skills, it just teaches you basic basic stuff if im not mistaken (than again, i've havent gone yet). I would expect to at least get proper training before I got shipped out.

FooDawg, if you go and look at this forum stating the rules of poolees on this website, it is not an official rule but Lorix stated something very true.

My bad, I didn't really call it basic training though. I was more or less stating that you don't get like Infantry training in recruit training like you would in SOI. Thats all. Trust me JMike, I try really hard to not type in things that overstep my grounds as a poolee and if I could edit my post after you pointing it out I would, but I even stated that I know I don't even know since I haven't even gone yet. Sorry.
nice job on the weight I myself had to drop 70 odd pounds to swear in and now am at 80 had to lose another 10 to be able to ship to boot.
Well its official, passed my medical consult, 20070514 is my ship date with an 0311 reserve slot.

Just stumbled upon these boards. It is a great source of information. I am currently considering joining the Marine Corps. I have a Finance Degree and 1.5 years left on my Masters/Doctorate degree (JD/MBA).
I have been looking and looking for a program that would let me start training ASAP (Summer 07) and then get a deferral until May 2008 when I will graduate.
It sounds like what the op has done is something I would need.
Thus, would it be possible for me to join the Reserves (as enlisted or ?), go to the first phase training in Summer 2007, drill on the weekends while in my last year of law school (Aug07-May08), graduate law school in May 2008, then go straight to OCS or whatever the next training would be? My ultimate goal is active duty officer.
Can anyone shed some light on the best path possible? I do not want to be stuck as enlisted, stuck in the reserves, or have to miss my last year of law school (well its really onlye 7 or so months of schooling). I basically want a guaranteed slot at OCS in the summer of 2008. Yes, I could wait and just go into OCS directly after I graduated but I would like to go ahead and get into the system, get some training and pay and acclimate to the experience before then if at all possible.
Greatly appreciate your time!

Call your local OSO and ask about the JAG program.
