In '85 I appeared and competed against two great Marine buddies for Meritorious Sergeant. A couple of days later the 1stsgt assembled the detachment and everyone extended their congratulations to this Marine. I was instructed to head up to Supply and pick-up my Sergeant rank patches and prepare for the ceremony. Got the patches but, Needless to say, I rotated off to my next duty station, six months later, without a promotion nor with any documentation in my service jacket. I left the corps in "86. I've struggled for years, looking through my jacket, retracing every step, and can't seem to place my finger on the reason this happened. Its been more than twenty years and it still feels like yesturday. Just needed to get it off my shoulders.
