their opposition to the continuing sanctions on the people of Iraq.
Please contact me if you know of any organization that has publicly stated
its opposition to the sanctions and is not listed below. Please let me
know the name of the organization, where it is based, and any other
information that you have. Please accept my apology if I failed to

Also included is an incomplete list of prominent individuals who have
spoken out against the sanctions. Please let me know of any additional

Both lists are growing and still being compiled, and *do not* (as of yet)

About United for Peace


United for Peace is a new national campaign that brings together a broad range of organizations throughout the United States to help coordinate our work against a U.S. war on Iraq. At an initial meeting in Washington, DC on October 25, more than 70 peace and justice organizations agreed to form United for Peace and signed on to the following statement:

The demand placed on us by world events is to deal with the Iraq crisis and to work to stop the war that is being planned. This is unfolding in a global context where other crises can and will erupt in connection to the Iraq crisis and they too will demand our action. In addition, we will oppose new repressive measures at home. We can and will work together now, focused on stopping this war, and as we go forward we will discuss other issues and the larger context. Unite for peace and say NO! to war.

United for Peace welcomes the participation of any and all national, regional and local groups who share our goal and wish to work with others. Decisions are made at meetings of the coordinating committee, which is open to representatives of all participating groups. A smaller administrative committee helps to make sure decisions are implemented. If you are interested in being a part of United for Peace, contact andrea@globalexchange.org.

Since October 25, United for Peace has decided to promote the following calendar of anti-war events. In addition, we will be discussing other ways we can work together to build the broadest and strongest anti-war movement.

November 20: UFP endorsed the "Not In Our Name" call for a national day of student and youth protest

December 10: UFP is calling for a national anti-war day of action

Jan. 18-20: UFP endorsed the Black Voices for Peace call for peace and justice events to be held during the MLK Jr. Memorial weekend

I'm against this coming war in Iraq, but I won't be out in the streets saying that. I don't agree with the Bush administation
on this one, but I always pray for the safety and well being
of all our armed forces. I'll pray for a quick and decisive victory
for our troops.

I don't think anyone is truely "for war" But that is not the question frankly. The base is issue are we, as a nation, prepared to use our strength as necessary--including a first strike--to prrotect our national safety and way of life?

Most, if not all the US groups on that nausious list would never lift a finger to protect themselves. I suspect many would rather die than than deal with any US action to protect their own sorry asses. There were many Muslim groups on the list too, US and otherwise. I suspect these groups put their religious feeling ahead of all else. To say nothing of the fact that it is their people who for the most part have their butts in a sling here.

These lists of 'Peace' activists seem to be the same old tired worn out groups of extraordinary left leaning liberals who simply can not imagine that we have a right to defend our way of life. They will never been convienced that the US might just be right here. I could go into a full bore rant here, so I will just say that I will defend their right to ***** and moan BUT ... F*** em !!

I've got an answer to ALL protestors. Whatever the protest is about.

We ALL have three alternatives, every day, what ever the situation.

Accept it, change it, or leave it. Which is, in a practical sense, The Serinity Prayer.

I chose, for several reasons, none of them political, to leave the US and retire in the Philippines.

I was 59, I married a 21 year old, and could afford to live a comfortable retirement. NONE of which were available to me in the US.

For me, this is paradise. But, I could also put together a string of *****es a mile long. I don't like this, I don't like that, I don't like something else.

I have the same three choices. Accept it, change it, or leave it.

I can't change it, faced with the alternatives, I don't want to leave it, therefore, I MUST accept it.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

Except that there is a percentage of masochists in every society. People who get their jollies by beating their heads against a brick wall. "Georgians in favor of the reinstallation of slavery," "Citizens agains WWI", " Use a condom, save a life that may end up looking like you", "Americans in Support of the Salem Witch Hunts".

The headlines in the supermarket tabloids tell the whole story.
"I had sex with Elvis last night", "Triplets, one white, one brown, one yellow." The mother was a hooker who took on three foreigners in one night.

"Yes, he's the product of a Virgin Birth, but please don't crucify my son when he's 33".

"Read my lips"; "I am not a thief"; "It depend's on what your definition of "is" is."

If you can't change it, either get out or shut up.

I didn't like the yellow line in the middle of highways throughout the US. I thought it should be Marine Corps Green. I could spend a lifetime repainting the lines, but I was too old to complete the job, and since I couldn't accept it, I left.

I married a 21 year old. We now have four kids, and I really don't give a **** what color the center stripe is on the US Interstate.

That's YOUR problem. Live with it.

So, to the anti-whatever protestors, I have this to say. Once a decision has been made, either accept it and support it, or get the hell out.

And we will now bow our heads and recite the Serinity Prayer.

I was watching the news tonight (Tuesday 1/14/03) and it said if America doesn't go to War with Iraq we will loss all our support with other countries the next time we need it. Seems like to me those other Countries are telling America they want us to do the dirty work for them.

I don't like War either havin been in Nam and lost many there but if America, doesn't take control of this world crisis soon and get rid of all those dictators the world will never have peace.

Its funny how many of us who's been in War have differnet views on our beliefs. Anyways, America is like the roman Empior, one day we will be defeted by others.

I really don't fore see being defeated by another country . As of now , most of the wars (I'm not talking Revolutionary , Civil ) have been fought on forein soil . Yes Pearl Harbor was a cheap shot on the US , As was the Twin Towers , Pentagon And the plane which crashed in Pa. We as Americans are resilient , we bounce back , maybe not as fast as I feel we should , but we do just the same .
I look at things a little different than most , and I go shooting my mouth off before I take time to think things over . I feel that no other country could come into the US and do to us , like we did to the Iraqee's in the Gulf war .
We got all these protesters , we got all the dope smokers , momma boys and all the other worthless waste of life in our country , but If sh it hit the fan in the good old USA , I think you would see a different America .
I'll go where ever they send me , but my heart won't be in it as much as if they attack my homeland . Now 9-11 sent me through the roof . I never wanted a man dead as much as I want Osama and his Momma Bin Laden . The government cant tell me that they can see a pack of cigerettes lying on the ground from space , but they don't know where that coc ksucker is . They either know where he is , or he's dead already .
Another motherfvcker is that Hussein bas tard . Did you know that in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens blew , it took 17 days for the ash from that explosion to make it around the world , back to Washington state ? So what happened when Hussein had those oilfields set on fire ? What are the long term affects of that . They should have got that SOB the first time .
I watched the History channel tonight about the Gulf war . If that didn't pi ss off the Pope . Granted the USA was swift , I don't know about silent , but they were deadly . Only took them 100 hours to end the war . BUT they didn't finish the job .
Bring that sh it over here , don't be chicken sh it , fight like men and take the as s whoopin you got comin .
The only thing I can say now about the war soon approaching , kill that co cksucker this time !

USMC-FO I'm not down in the dumper today...My statements tag along the lines of the Roman history because America is structured after Roman Empior. I have a strange way at looking at things because I study Roman War Stratigies, including its politics. Think about Americas situation today and all the Wars we ever had in our history then apply it to the Roman Empior and we would see a close similarity to America.

The Roman Empior conquered all it laid its hands on right? America puts its nose where it doesn't belong, like Rome had done many centuries ago. See what I'm saying. Why is it always left up to America to govern the world? To me, it more like America acting like the Roman Empior but without its land conquering stuff. Its like America being the Mothering country taking care of all its children (smaler countries).

Anyways, one day america could and may well be defeated if enough countries came together to defet us. It may not be soon but I say it may be 100's or 1,000 of years from now but it will come. Its part of evolution of countries which is a natural process countries go through.

so I'm not in the dumper but writing this post may put me in the dumster then, I would be in the dumper or may be in the Sh*tter whichever comes first lol.

Seems like these 'Peace' activists have a lot of time to sit around winding themselves up about a war they know little or nothing about. It appears to me that most of these groups are made up of students and professors who sit in their warm classrooms, offices and dormitorys, run up large credit card bills, spend money out of their trust funds and then have the nerve to turn around and tell us working stiffs how horrible the USA is... I'll bet not too many 'peaceniks' were killed on 9/11... it was average Americans who were out working and trying to provide for themselves and their families. Remember 9/11!!! Never Forget!!!

The United States is not, and has never been anything like the Roman Empire! We have never invaded another country for any reason other than self defence, whether of ourself or of another freedom loving entity. Thats not to say we never benefited from past wars. We have, but we were never the aggressor and never subjected any other society to domination by our country. Look at Germany and Japan as current examples; Both countries are free societies, self governed and better off today than they would be had they not been defeated by the United States. That's nothing like what the Roman Empire did to the enemies they conquered.
Secondly, The US is not the worlds policeman and we have no intention of telling the rest of the world how to behave. Unless, their behavior threatens our existance or our freedom to determine our own beliefs and behavior.
If Iraq, North Korea, France, Canada or any other country on the globe threatens us by use of force, we have every right to say and if necessary do something about it.
I'm sick of hearing how we poke our nose in other countries business. The only time we've ever acted was when provoked, and that makes it our right to do so.

Well put "MarDet65" ! I am with you. Riven took issue with my previous point that he seemed in the dumper and after reading his follow up I did not see any point in continuing the discussion. I don't agree with his points and I think neither do you. Just seems if you're that down on our future, even if it is a 1000 years out, then I would say you're in the dumper. I was hoping he'd take a brighter tack on things but I guess not.

But he's still a brother so I guess we can deal with it.

The difference between America and the Roman Empire (not empoir) is we are a democracy. What Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence is an absolute truth ... We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The Roman Empire, after Agustus, believed the Emporer was a god, and government flowed through him and the ruling class. This Divine Right concept kept the ruling class in power for millenia.

The radical concept that government was "of the people, by the people and for the people" (Lincoln's Gettysburg Address) had never been tried.

As more countries and civilizations awaken to their rights not only does our democracy gain strength, but so does our safety.

During WWII, for the first time, conquered nations did not fear the conquering forces. By this I mean West Germany and Japan. While the fighting, especially in the Pacific was barbarous, America did not rape, pillage and plunder. This was not true at any time in 10.000 years of human history.

Every human being strives for freedom, we are born with it. Only when all peoples are free will there be peace. As a democracy, it is our duty to make all persons free. We have an opportunity now in Afganistan and Iraq to show the Muslim world what freedom is. We must take it.

This leads me to the current discussions. While I vehemently disagree with the current protester's position, I would fight and have fought to defend their right to express their views. It is because we can protest, hold free elections in time of war, or have this discussion here that makes America so great.

Will the United States go on forever in its present state? No one knows. But I state confidently whatever happens to our future generations, they will be free. Democracies do not lose wars. Germany trained their soldiers from birth, but the will to be free is greater than brainwashing. Our Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen are endowed with this freedom. It does not make them soft, instead the desire for freedom burns inside them making them invincible. Likewise, while we don't have to agree with protesters, the ability to speak freely only makes us a stronger nation. I don't ask you to like, love or agree with those whom we disagree, I only ask rejoice that we live in a country where people can protest without the threat of reprisals, torture or death.

Well I've been watching the History channel for the past few days about the Gulf War . My lady and myself , have not been that pis sed for quite sometime . I don't know to whom my anger should be directed toward . Hussein , the U.N . All the Allies or the USA . Very imformative , I guess I found out things I didn't know or didn't want to know . My lady and I stayed up for hours last night discussing this one .
Did anyone else catch the History channel ? What are your thoughts? One Pis sed off Jarhead !

I saw it. All ya have to do is watch the news regular and read a paper once in awhile. I thought the presentation was balanced myself.

That info is why I'm doin' this email 'campaign', and why I've been postin' that kinda stuff lately.

The final straw fer me was hearin that peace activists are usin Veteran memorials and military bases for places to stage their demonstrations.

Hold a damn demonstration, but wouldn't it make more sense to find a politician's office, or someplace in front of Congress or in front of 'City Hall' of something?

Well it just pis sed me off that we pulled the troops out of the Gulf war before the job was done , because Bush was worried what other countries think of him . They want the US to fight all the battles , but then gonna tell us how to do it .
Then Swatrzcoff and the rest of them let them keep their weapons , and let them fly again , while the US was still there .
They were worried that Israel would retaliate , because Hussein fired missiles at them .
Then to find out that our Allies are supplying Iraq with weapons of destruction .The US is also a supplier .
Our Allies want the US to take care of things , don't want their soldiers involved ,because of what they are affraid what Suddam is going to do . I don't understand , if they want the US to take care of it , then stand back and let us do our job .
If you don't like what you see then go hide in the corner with the women . They don't want to go in the desert because they are affraid they will get sand in their vagina's .
Then find out that Hussein has maybe 6 stand-ins . What a thing to put on your resume , yea I was a stunt double for Suddam Hussein .
Regardless of what happens , I think its going to be a different war this time . I hope and pray for the best , may God bless all the troops .Thanks for listening , I have more , but I feel a little better now that I vented .
