Garden City Son Joins The Marines
Patrick Zirpoli graduated from Garden City High School in 2004. He was a member of the undefeated football team which won the Long Island Championship Conference II. After a year and a half of college, he set his sights on becoming a United States Marine. Having weighed 250 pounds as a defensive lineman he began to train with his Marine recruiter. He left for Parris Island, South Carolina on May 30 at 5 a.m. at 204 pounds. His father recalls being around determined people but "his son has them beat." He has just returned home on August 25 from a vigorous 13-week boot camp and graduated as Private First Class.
He will enjoy a 10 day leave at home before leaving for further training in North Carolina and Oklahoma.
