2 Marines, 1 sailor killed in Iraq's Anbar province
(Baghdad, Iraq-AP, Aug. 21, 2006 10:10 AM) _ Two U.S. Marines and a sailor were killed in combat in Anbar province, the stronghold of the Sunni Arab insurgency west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Monday.
The Marines and the sailor were assigned to the Regimental Combat Team 7 and died from wounds sustained in fighting Sunday, a military statement said.
At least 2,609 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,072 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military.
