Two marines break into Va. Beach home, terrorize residents

wo marines currently stationed and undergoing counterintelligence training at Dam Neck, broke into a Virginia Beach couple's home and severely beat the husband.

Police say that at around 2:20 a.m., they received a 9-1-1 call from a woman who said that her home had been broken into by two men who smashed down the front door and were assaulting her husband.

Beverly Maloney-Shane and her husband Dan Shane say they don't know the two men and assume their home was chosen at random.

When the men broke in, they started smashing up the house and beating Dan Shane, while Beverly hid upstairs and stayed on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator.

She said the men accused her husband of being a terrorist and threatened to kill him and his entire family

"They were demanding for him to lay down and cooperate. It seemed surreal as he began to tell my husband 'I'm the one who is in control'" Maloney said.

Eventually, the intruders located her upstairs and started dragging her from her hiding place, but then turned their attention back towards her husband.

By 2:35 a.m., police had assembled a tactical team outside and stormed the house, finding one of the men, identified as Sgt. Shawn Gianforte, on top of Dan Shane, still assaulting him. He was taken into custody.

By this time, the other man, identified by police as Sgt. Jerome Fenner, had already fled, but he was taken into custody less than 30 minutes later a short distance away.

Authorities say the men had been out drinking prior to the incident, and Maloney-Shane said that they smelled of alcohol.
