Army Testing New Method to Detect Breast Cancer
A five-year trial is now underway at Walter Reed Army Medical Center to prove the value of "electrical impedance scanning" (EIS) in detecting early stages of breast cancer in women under the age of 45.

New Basic Pay in Effect
Since January 1, 2003, new basic pay rates have been in effect for active duty officers and enlisted servicemembers. All servicemembers will see a minimum 4.1 percent increase in basic pay rate.

Next TSP Enrollment Season Begins April 15
Navy News Service reports that the third Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) open season for the uniformed services ended Dec. 31. The next two open seasons are currently scheduled to run from April 15 to June 30, and Oct. 15 to Dec. 31 in 2003.

OMB Would Slash 2004 Pay Raise
With deployment tempos at an all-time high, and with more than 50,000 Reserve and Guard troops activated and thousands more tabbed for activation, and with the possibility of war with Iraq, the White House Office of Management and Budget reportedly has proposed a cut in basic pay increases in 2004 from 3.7 percent to as little as 2 percent.

PACAF to Cut 1,101 Jobs by Fiscal 2009
Pacific Air Forces will shift 747 civilian and military job positions for fiscal 2004 and cut 1,101 jobs by 2009, a spokesman announced this week.
