Some North County military families celebrated the new year by preparing to say goodbye to loved ones who have been ordered overseas, possibly departing as early as this weekend.
"Additional, but select elements of (I Marine Expeditionary Force) have received the deployment order," Capt. Alison Salerno, a spokeswoman at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, confirmed Tuesday.
The Marines are part of the Pentagon's latest and largest deployment of 50,000 additional combat and support forces expected to play a role in a possible invasion of Iraq.
