Air Ground Combat Center Band comes to Bowl Tuesday

Redlands Daily Facts
Rich with tradition since 1775, the Marine Corps sends its Air Ground Combat Center Band to the Redlands Bowl on Tuesday, Aug. 1 as part of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival.

Fifty-one Marines will briskly step on to the stage and deliver a precision performance, true to their training. For the enthusiastic Redlands Bowl audience, the band will perform a wide variety of music styles with ensembles that include the concert band, ceremonial band, party band, jazz combo, and a brass quintet.

The men and women of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Band are basically trained Marine Riflemen who serve as a perimeter security/machine gun platoon during time of war. With Gulf War veterans in their ranks, they give full meaning to the term "Marine Musicians."

The Band was established in the late 1950s, and is one of the youngest Marine Corps musical units. A band from its inception, it was later reestablished as a Drum and Bugle Corps and remained so until 1990 when a restructure of the Corps music program formally established the 12 Marine Corps Bands we have today.

The band travels extensively throughout the western United States, and have been seen as far away as Nevada, Arizona, and Iowa. They have performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, and the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival in Estes Park, Colo. They fulfill their mission of providing music for military ceremonies, community events, recruiting programs, and other official events.
