It was a long hot day last Monday...we drove with other riders from KC to Vinita Oklahoma for a PGR ride...and I'm glad we did...that nasty Phelps crew actually showed up and made a scene with their gross accusations ...as if they don't get that the family is already hurt enough...I firmly believe G-d has a special place for people like that...
but at least the guard was there...the flags flying high...and respects paid to a fallen Marine and his family...

I took Kira with me this time, after all you are never to young to learn respect, for servicemen, for our country...while yes the USA has quite a lot of warts there's still no better place on earth to live...It's our home and we should take pride in that...and vote accordingly for change.

She asked a lot of questions, and I answered as best I could. She had over 140 bikers to help answer them too...she was quite the butterfly and for a change wasn't too shy in asking them of what in any other circumstance could be considered "strangers".

When the time came she snapped to attention just like Kaydra had taught her before she left, and held her smaller flag as high as she possibly could. The outpouring of support for the family from the townsfolk as the procession wended it's way through town, brought tears to all of our eyes, and their thoughtfulness while we stood guard at the service was incredibly touching. The heat index in OK hit 118...and yet here were all of us out in the open sun, holding our flags...the townsfolk brought cooler upon cooler of iced water bottles, and let me tell you...that touched our hearts as well...they cared enough even about the guard that they wouldn't take a penny for that water!

After the services were over we stopped for lunch and wound up eating with the Marine Honor Guard that was there...and Kira was still feeling chatty...so she talked to those 9 Marines all through lunch ... She idolizes Marines...especially since Kaydra left for boot...

The SSgt waved me away, assuring me she wasn't being a nuisance, so I returned to my meal and fellow riders keeping an eye on Kira...until she returned to finish her meal

When they (the Marines) got up to leave, they each came by and gave me a hug...told me they were proud to have Kaydra join their ranks as a sister, and that the hugs were from her since she couldn't be there with me right now...

and yeah...I admit it...I cried ... but those Marines really touched my heart...:flag:

See Mama - I think I told you a while back that stuff like this would start happening.

Now fire up the stove cause you're going to have to start feeding a lot of folks - :)

Glad to see you back online and I'll see you Sept 1.

Awesome story, Mama. I wish I could've been there, sounded like a VERY patriotic and good time.

Glad Kira could have that experience, good idea to bring her along!

I wish I would have known about this before hand. Even though I don't ride anymore, I could have shown up and offered my support. I really need to stop keeping better track of where the PGR are going to be.

Kira learned a LOT! That one day I was able to teach her more about the price of freedom...as well as the principles of freedom than I've been able to "explain" in the year since I joined the PGR.

It's both an honor and priviledge to be a part of such a great group of Americans...and for the record, I don't have a bike anymore...I chase 'em in my car...pack the trunk with extra flags and coolers of drinks and energy bars :)

and now you begin to see what being a Marine is all about. We do love our family, even if we squabble a bit with some of em...

You will never know a stranger amongst Marines...

You know................I'm glad you told me that Mama - I joined a few months back and I don't ride either (my legs are too short to hold one up - HAHAHAHAHA!) but I'm on the email list and I've always wanted to ride with them but.................now I can chase 'em in my car too!! YAY!

BTW - sent Kaydra a letter the other day and told her to be prepared to stay on the Island for a while after graduation cause you and me would need a Marine escort to shop in the gift shop on base. Told her if she would be my escort, I'll buy ya'll lunch some place off base before ya'll start home. Cool with you?

Fine with me, I've a list of people who want PI shirts....all Marines of course who haven't made it back to the Island ....dang the shipping's gonna kill me when I get home...
But, you don't have to buy us lunch...Kaydra's already told me we're going shopping and to the museum after graduation...
I got the feeling we weren't actually leaving until the next day LOL

Can't wait to meet ya! And thanks for the name of the hotel, cause what we were looking at having to pay was crazy!!!! Ex was looking at B&B's...ack
I hadn't told her you were coming...didn't know if you wanted to surprise her or not LOL

Anyhow, see you soon :D

Oh and there's a whole area on stuff for chase vehicles tips and such...
hehe

Yeah, it's pretty amazing, just when I think I start to understand that even Mama's are a part of the "family" you Marines go and suprise me again.

Y'all really are an amazing group...and it does give me a great amount of comfort to know that no matter where Kaydra goes in life, she will have a family for support and sister/brotherhood. Not every parent has the comfort of knowing that...

Dang, Mama, you sound like my wife. She absolutely loves to cook as long as she knows someone will enjoy it. (dang she has fattened me for the kill, too...) I hope that someday in our travels that our paths will cross. I would dearly love to meet you guys.

Woah Mama!!! You live about 4-5 hours away from me. I live just south of St. Louis. And you like to cook?!? Hell I'll do some good yard work for a home cooked meal. Next time I'm in the KC area I might just stop by.:)

Invited of course;)

I had no idea that was going on. I live in Owasso, OK, only about an hour or so away, I could have been there with no problem.:(

The door's open :)

Pialphamu...the PGR has a website...it has all of the missions across the nation listed. I usually check in about twice a week...and that'll keep me up to date...

You would have been MORE than welcome :D

What is the age-limit to get involved in the Patriot Guard, Mama?

Mama
07-30-06, 03:59 PM
There is no age limit that I'm aware of...
Just a willingness to show respect to the fallen Hero and the family...that's who we are there for. The Family.

If you are interested contact the state captain in your area and let him know you are wanting to be involved. If you are a licensed driver you can "chase" the bikes...if not, you may be able to ride with one of the riders or chasers :)

Thank you, Ma'am. I will have to look into that further soon.
