CAMP PENDLETON – A Marine reservist rescued two children and their father from a burning house in Lancaster before dawn yesterday, city officials said.

Cpl. Arlen Traster, 26, was leaving his home at about 3 a.m. to report for duty when he saw a two-story house ablaze on his street. He got two children down from the roof and guided their father from inside the smoky home to the front door. The mother, 46-year-old Luz Zepeda, was trapped in an upstairs bathroom and died.

"There's no question . . . the efforts of this Marine (contributed) to saving a number of family member's lives," Lancaster Assistant City Manager Dennis Davenport said.
