Elements of 2nd FSSG from Camp Lejeune were preparing Friday to leave for parts unknown. Marines and sailors with 2nd FSSG are typically among the first in and last out of a war zone, making preparations for others to come.
About 200 of the 8,000-person 2nd FSSG gathered at the French Creek armory Friday to pick up their weapons before heading to Cherry Point Air Station for a flight bound for somewhere in Southwest Asia. Roughly 500 will leave by the beginning of the next week.
