As he sat at Cherry Point Air Station waiting to board the chartered 747 that would take him to an undisclosed destination in the Middle East, Sgt. Robert Cumberland couldn’t help but recall the last time he was there.
It was 12 years ago. Cumberland, then in his early 20s, was part of the Marine Corps ground element that helped liberate Kuwait during the first Gulf War.
