It is no longer appropriate to call female Marines WMs (women Marines). The guidance come down several years ago. The reason behind it is that whether a Marine is male or female, they are all called Marine. Being that females must meet all the same qualifications for the title Marine, promotions and other duties, it is no longer appropriate to single them out as WMs. They are all Marines, through and through.
So, to my sisters, it's good to have you here MARINES

...I do seem to recall the guidance to which you refer. Not sure if it was under General Gray, Mundy or Krulak. I'm thinking it probably was NOT General Gray, I don't think he had a P.C. bone in his body.

I stopped saying WM's when a Male Navy Nurse at the
Navy Hospital told me WM stood for Walking Matress :eek:

ain't no problem here..my time we always refered to female Marines as BAMS..if the shoe fits ..wear it ;)
P.S Never actually seen a BAM during active duty.
