Point me in right direction. This is for my son. He has this idea that Reserves might be better. I feel that once he is in Boot Camp, he will want to go active. I used search but did not find much. If I waisted your time then I'll ask a recruiter.

Thanks for the threads. I did not intend to dredge up any animosity or old wounds. I now know why I got the reaction that I did from this question? What I was looking for was:
Ø College Money
Ø Training Time
Ø Benefits
Ø Available MOS
Ø Ease of Switching from Active to Reserve or vise versa
Ø Promotion Differences
Ø Availability of OCS

If it were your 18 year old “mush for brains” (I hate teenagers), what advice would you give him?

The Answer<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
USMC Reserves
If you have a very high ASVEB
If you have money for living expenses
If you are college bound anyway
If you want to be an officer but want the experiences USMC Active
USMC Active
If you want the loyalty
If you want Marine Corps 24/7
If you want the excellent training
If you want the experience
If you want the college money and “Daddy ain’t rich
If you need to mature before the world grabs you by the “short hairs
Alternative
Go active Marine
Serve your country with pride as the “Best”
Receive some of the best training that’s offered
Then go in the guard, get fat, collect the GI Bill & Tuition from your State, Get all the schooling you can stand, get married, have kids, let them drive you crazy, and then send them to the CORPS.
