Marines remove mortar round from attic

NEW BERN, N.C.
Marine Corps explosives experts removed an old mortar round from an attic and a spokesman said the shell didn't have primer or fuse and couldn't have exploded accidentally.
The round was found in the attic by air conditioning workers.
Capt. Joshua Truesdale at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in Havelock said the shell was dated 1974 and had about a third of the original amount of explosives it contained.
