Marines: I don't know if this is appropriate, if not, please advise and accept my apologies. Can anyone critique Vonage Satellite High Speed Internet Connection technology; after some 3-4 months, I have been unable to find anyone who can properly make mine work, after my spending some $600+ in the effort. If I am out of order here, just tell me and I wont be offended, I'll just reply "Thank you and by your leave, Sir." I've tried several other sources, with no success, and thought maybe I'd find some knowledgable Marines. I kinda feel like the guy of the 1950's who, having got on the subway free, but couldn't get off because he didn't have the dime exit fare, and maybe still riding the subway, looking for help. Marines, I believe "contrived complexity" and "creative invoicing" will do us all in, finally. Gary Hall W-3-1, 50-51.

Assuming that Vonage has furnished all of your hardware you shouldn't have any problems. Lets get a little deeper here. What O/S are you operating? Win2K, XP, etc...? As far as you know does your computer meet all of the requirements for Vonage as far as memory, hard drive space, etc...??? You should have a satelight reciever, and modem for your setup. DO you have all of this?

Let me know so we can get this worked out. Are you sending from a land based system now, library or something?

GySgt E. B. Reagle: Thank you sir, most kindly. I am putting this out publicly in the hope it will help others in similar electronic troubles. This is the 3rd time in my lifetime that a Marine Gunnery Sgt has given me memorable help, the first time was Gunnery Sgt Roy Kastner in Hawthorne, NV on the rifle range summer of 1950, just a few days before Korea started, the 2nd time was another Gunnery Sgt in Korea who gave me an unmerited pass for a dereliction I was guilty of and now, once again, help from yet another GySgt. In reply to your questions: 1.) Vonage, from DHL Logistics, Groveport OH 43125, supplied me with everything, I have all the documentation; 2.) My operating system is Windows 98. 3.) My computer is a Pentium 4 w/ 128 MB RAM. I'll have to check the memory of the hard drive. 4.) I have a satellite receiver, from Direcway, just recently installed. 5.) My installation is land based at my home in Tyler, TX. and I have a Vonage supplied DW7000 IPS modem and a Vonage VT2442 device. Everything came from Vonage and everything has been installed by Vonage contractors. The original installation work was done by a Vonage supplied contractor and it was obvious from the first that something was wrong, the telephone tone was so choppy and scratchy only an occasional word could be understood. A few days ago I paid a technician from a Nationally known electronics outlet here in Tyler to come to my home and check the system out. He was less than no help, when he gave up he said I had the wrong equipment and that this Satellite High speed equipment could not be made to work. When he left I found that after his adjusting, I now can only seldom get on the internet, can't access my e-mail, electronic banking, etc. I don't fully understand but I can log onto Leatherneck.com. (Thank you Lord). Vonage called me today (on my cell phone) and told me they would send yet another technician to my home 11 July, 2006, and see what is going on. Thank you again in advance, Gary Hall PFC W-3-1 50 - 51, Tyler, TX and any assistance will be appreciated.

I have Direct TV and even through the trees I can get about 96 % signal which is not a detriment at all. I would seem either you have the incorrect equipment or it isn't orientated correctly. Shadowman777. ANything that you could add to this being that you are with a major phone company...???
I am not sure that you can even do Vonage over a satelite...?? I could be wrong things are advancing very rapidly. Hey by the way. What kind of a Gunny would I be if I didn't take care of my Marines. Let me know how it goes.

This may or may not help. Is the dish (most are) pointed south with a clear view and then has it been properly "aimed"?

Airframes: Thank you for the interest; yes, the little dish points southerly, although it was installed by a contractor chosen by Vonage, I don't know for certain it is properly tuned, the moves and...

I am inclined to agree with airframesguru as to the orientation of your dish. And yes I have experienced outsourcing before. Good luck and let us know.

My only other thought (s):

once you get you "specialist" in

1. verify sat direction
1a. verify that all equipement is compatabile
2. verify connectivety - Is the cable in good condition, properly terminated, away from high voltage wires if possible (causes interferance)
3. verify computer settings
4. reboot routers, pcs, etc.

If I had more information - gear etc. I may be of more help - MAY BE

lemme know,

S/F,

Mike

What kind of cable goes from the sat dish to the router(?) then to the PC?

It (in my mind) should be coaxial (RG-6) from the dish to the router and CAT-5 (computer cable) from the router to the PC.
