You can get some in any MOS in combat arms. You can get some as an MP. You can get some as a forward observer (See Angleco). There are plenty of places to get some....It might be interesting to ask yourself why you want to get some....and stop acting so excited about it.

I asked myself that question and Im just pumped up about the Marines. Im sure its alot different when you're in actual combat and that decision is actually life or death and not just to 'get some". Im sorry for sounding too excited about it. Thanks for the info:D

keep pushing for infantry if you want it. They were "out" when I joined up, but I was persistant that it was all I wanted and they worked out some kind of deal and next thing I knew I was signing a contract for infantry :D

What the heck is wrong with Motor T 3531? Its exciting getting the grunts their chow, mail, ammo and gear to them, aint nothing in this world like being a big slow moving target. IED's can only slow them momentarily and they get to play grunt a lot too.

And, its a lot better when you don't have to walk to the next fire fight.:tank:

ANGLICO is a unit that insets (usually by air) behind the enemy lines and directs fire from air, arty, and naval guns. The job is very similiar to the Combat Controlers in the Air Force, but it is not a part of US Special Operations Command.

ANGLICO (Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison COmpany) refers to several small units of the United States Marine Corps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps) who specialize in coordinating artillery, naval gunfire and close air support between the Marine Corps and U.S. Navy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy), and U.S. Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army) units and the armed forces of US allies. They serve as liaison units by providing capabilities normally contained in Marine Corps units to direct and control naval air support and shore bombardment to Army and foreign units which lack this capability; and in coordinating the fire support assets between Marine Corps and other US or allied units in the field.

Motto

A motto common to ANGLICO units is "Lightning from the Sky, Thunder from the Sea".

Training

ANGLICO units require Marines who are proficient in a wide variety of specialized military skills. In addition to their primary MOS training necessary to coordinate fire support, such as artillery fire support, field radio operations, tactical air control party, and naval gunfire spotting; all ANGLICO Marines receive airborne training and jump qualification at the Army's Airborne School at Fort Benning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Benning), making ANGLICO one of the few Marine Corps units in which all Marines are jump-qualified. ANGLICO Marines regularly receive further advanced training in other insertion methods, fieldcraft, SERE, and other specialized and demanding activities. This, combined with the fact that ANGLICO Marines routinely serve with and must cross-train with a wide variety of US and Allied units around the world such as the British Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Army)'s 148th FOB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/148_Commando_Forward_Observation_Battery), including Recon and Special Operations units and foreign services, makes ANGLICO units among the toughest and most highly regarded in the Marine Corps.
ANGLICO units can deploy as an entire company of 150 to support the large-scale operations of an entire Marine Expeditionary Force, or, more commonly, deploy in 4 to 7 man teams to support the activities of non-Marine units.

History

The History of ANGLICO dates back to the formation of JASCO (Joint Assault Signals Company) units who fought in the Pacific theatre of World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II). At the time, the JASCO units were used to coordinate air, artillery and naval gunfire support between the Marines, Army and US Navy during the Pacific "island hopping" campaign. Following the reorganization of the US Armed Forces under the Department of Defense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_of_Defense) in 1947, the JASCO units were disbanded and their responsibility transferred to the US Navy. In 1949, the Marine Corps began the process of recreating the JASCO capability under the new ANGLICO designation, and 1st ANGLICO was activated on 2 March 1951 at Pearl Harbor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Harbor%2C_Hawaii).
In 1999, 1st and 2nd ANGLICO were deactivated, their responsibilities transferred to Marine Expeditionary Force Liaison elements, and the two reserve units, 3rd and 4th ANGLICO were the only ANGLICO units left in the Corps. Though not explicitly given as a reason, this followed a public relations incident in which videotapes surfaced in the US media of new joins to ANGLICO units having their jump wings "blood pinned" directly to their chests (a form of hazing). In 2003, amidst the US war in Iraq (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_War) and global war on terror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_terror) and a high operational tempo being demanded of the reserve ANGLICO units, 1st and 2nd ANGLICO were reactivated, followed by the new 5th ANGLICO in 2004.

It looked pretty good, so I posted it. The stuff I looked up about Recon was right, but completely wrong at the same time. Incomplete too.

I have found that the best way to get into SOI is to sign a contract as an Air Traffic Controller, with a second choice of 0311, that way when your school "fills up" while you are in Boot, you are guaranteed a shot at being a Grunt...*LOL*.. At least that is the path I "chose"...Just tell your recruiter that you are not going to join unless you get the career you want, he will find a way to make it happen....They can be funny that way...
