In case anyone was wondering, Senate roll call vote 189 shows us exactly who cares about our nation, and those that defend it. The following traitors all voted no when given the opportunity to protect our flag and what it stand for. Burn some other countrys flag in there country and see what happens to you.. This is total BS and the senators that voted against it should be voted out no matter what party they belong too. This country is going to hell in a hand basket each day.. Its time for the veterans to stand up and raise alittle hell about this..

When this first was introduced, I expected most of the Dems (and Jumpin' Jeffords) to vote against it. But, I would have never guessed that three Republicans would lose their minds and vote no! It came up one vote short of passing. Feinstien votes yes but Chaffee, Bennett, and McConnell said no. As active as I am in the Republican party, I will not be donating to any PAC or group until they assure me, in writing, that these Senators will not be receiving any of my money.

Before we rush out to hang anybody...I wish to offer this;

"This objectionable expression is obscene, it is painful, it is unpatriotic," said Senator Daniel Inouye, Democrat of Hawaii and winner of the Medal of Honor for his service in World War II. "But I believe Americans gave their lives in many wars to make certain all Americans have a right to express themselves, even those who harbor hateful thoughts."

Also in my silly bit message from your American Flag...I said;
People have taken to burning me as a sign of protest.
Others wear me as clothing.
I really don't mind, because as long as they are able to do these things.
It means that you're still free.

I will close with;
The Extremes of Good and Evil as translated by H. Rackham

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammeled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains.
~ Cicero ~
Did all these Senators voted out of pleasure or out of pain?
Once liberties are tempered with, are we than truly free?
Regardless of how good our intend, its still tempering with the freedoms that Flag presences.
We also swore to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is part of that Constitution.
Yet is Flag burning a speech or a demostration...
Wise men will vote again next year on the same issue, might it be different next year?

Well said Millrat.

Freedom includes the freedom to be a butthead (burn a flag).

The congress sure spends a lot of time on an issue that doesn't occur very often (unless one thinks that the dopey wearing of flags is desecration).

I am sorry, but I am disappointed in those of you that do not believe we should protect our flag from desecration. I honestly cannot believe you feel that way.

But, I will meet you all half way. If the US Congress can write into law that I have the right to beat the hell out of anyone that burns the flag, and that doing so falls under the reasonable man test, then I can live with it.

The veteran who encouraged the "No" vote to this amendment needs to reconcider the day and age in which we live.
I believe in our Constitution fully. Too many politicians who are supposed to "support and defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC" do not do so.
Were our nation's moral standards as high today as they were during WWII then I would agree that we should not have this amendment. But they are NOT. Nor will they be, if we sit idly by and allow the loudmouths to dictate to us what is right and what is wrong.

Boy, howdy, I agree. Reminds me of something which happened in the book of Esther. Haman intended to slaughter the Jews, then King Ahasuerus gave the Isrealites the authority to defend to the death. That needs to be the case with our flag here at home and abroad.

I wrote this up a long time ago as a response to another thread on another site but I think it helps here so I am going to post it in its entirety.

Here goes.

National Identity Theft.

This could happen to you. I have been thinking about this issue for a long time. Since we are on the burning the flag topic I thought to put in a bit more to emphasis it.

Allowing the flag to be burned in this manner was not an American idea. For some reason, ahem liberals/socialists, some would have you believe that it is your right to burn this symbol in protest.

You see, when someone burns the flag, who's face do you see? Go ahead and picture it if you can. Take a real moment before you go on reading here. I generally see in my mind people from foreign countries such as the Palestinians, Iranians, etc. So who is it I see again? The enemy, of course.

Now when I see or hear of an American burning the flag what do you think the message is going to be that I just received? I can tell you I didn't get the part where you burnt the flag in protest of an amendment or an elected official that you don't agree with. I see hatred towards our country. I sit there and wonder why it is you are still in this country. This is not freedom of speech, it’s an attack on our country and all those who served and protected the flag.

Now my other point I want to make about the National Identity Theft is this. How many here have had this conversation with someone either in another country or here with a foreigner or immigrant.

(Abdul) Hi
(Joe) Hi
(Abdul) So, where are you from?
(Joe) I'm from America.
(Abdul) No I mean originally?
(Joe) What do you mean I was born in New York.
(Abdul) Yes but your parents came from where?
(Joe) My parents where born in Maine.
(Abdul) Yea, but where are your grandparents from?
(Joe) My grandparents immigrated from Ireland.
(Abdul) Oh so you are Irish.

It's this mentality I see in the burning of the flag. They want you to have no National Identity. It helps to discredit you. It brings us as a united people down and ultimately divides us. They, the foreigner, gave us the idea of burning our own flag in this same attempt as the situation above with Joe and Abdul. Some have fallen for this and now believe they have the right to burn our flag.

Tell me this. How many times have you seen someone from another country burn their own flag? The only incident you will see is when a country is on the brink of some sort of civil war. Are we in a civil war here?

There is a time when they, the foreigner, want you to have the identity of the "American". Every time they have or hear of something they don't like about America they say "Oh you’re a ****ing American." To which I reply, "No, I'm Irish" J/K You get the point though right?

Also,

The problem with people's "right" to burn the American flag.

You, the flag burner, are an individual who can not grasp the concept of the sacrifice others have made protecting that flag. You are upset about something, a trivial issue, regarding this country and decide it is your right to show others how you feel so you grab the biggest symbol you can find, the flag, and think it is justified that you burn it in protest of something such as a newly elected official. It is a trick, too widely used, to get some major attention even though it has no relation to why you might actually burn the flag. You are saying that your right to burn the flag is greater then all those who have served to protect it and what it stands for. That is a lot of balls you have burning it.

So, the question becomes, is your need that great that it overwhelms all others beliefs and sacrifices for it? If you can tell me that this is so, I'll show you someone who has no consideration for others hard work, loyalty, pride and devotion as well as sacrifices.

Some things are too far beyond our own petty individual agendas to be messed with. You have no right to burn the flag.

Heres what I saw on a show last night: Some guy said that the reason that we should be glad the amendment was not passed, is because we shove it in the Iraqi's face when they burn our flag, they are actually being ignorant, because we already have that freedom here.

I wonder...would it be the same if a person burned another emblem of our nation...you know that black and white bird. Oh, that's right, you can't even "own" a feather that might fall to the ground because it is protected. Well, then, why are we not protecting our other national emblems?!?:usmc:

Why not just take the law into your own hands if you see someone desecrating the flag? Give em hell for it. I do enjoy the freedom we have to express ourselves in America. Now let's express how we feel towards people who burn old glory. I realize I'm not suppose to post here. I'm willing to take all reprocussions for my actions. The flag represents our freedom, burning the flag represents giving up that right.

I didn't say anything about the skinhead comment for two reasons. First, I haven't been sitting in front of a computer since you posted. Second, I don't understand what you're trying to say. If you are asking what I think about a skinhead that burns the US flag, I believe they should be punished as only a Marine knows how to punish someone. If you are asking what I think about a skinhead that burns the Israeli flag with the Star of David on it, I think they are morons, but I have no attachment to that flag as it isn't my flag. Maybe they should be punished for arson or something.
