Brought back memories of a night to morning in South Vietnam...

The first time I was at the Vietnam Memorial, with two Marines.
At the very spot that he writes about, where the names of L/Cpl Randall Kenneth Campbell USMC and Pfc Carl Richard Wenzel USMC names are located, I left the poem below.
I had heard what he writes about from the members of Bravo Company 3rd Recon that I had served with at K-Bay Hawaii, the morning after when we arrived after traveling all night to get to their position.
On the way there we met 1st Lt Frank S. Reasoner USMC, my old Platoon Commander, who ordered me to wait where we were at that moment.
Only to have that order over-turned by the Platoon Commander that I guiding to where the Recon patrol was located.
When we got there all that Recon patrol was out of water.
We gave them what we could spare, later we would run out of water and we were not able to get re-supplied because all the chopters were being used to take some VIP around.
I think that may have been the start of what turned me against that war.
But I kept that all in, causing me to become quite angry, later I would turn to poetry to ease my pain.
Because to me they were more than just names on a wall.
I had served with some of those Marines...so...

Who Speaks for the DEAD?

I see a "WALL" were images are reflected
From the names of those that went and met their fate.

They had no choice or deferment from their FATE
When at this Nation bidding they went to their fate.

In place of those that had a deferment
Or excuses from their fate.
So who speaks for the DEAD at this late date?

No one as most want to forgive and forget
I'm sorry, "I just can't do that just yet...
