Date: Sunday, June 18, 2006
Location: 3626 Churchill ( behind Phelps's church )
3701 SW 12th St.
Topeka, KS
Time: 10:00 AM, Bite boy plans to play around 11:00 AM or so.

This church belongs to the Rev. Fred Phelps http://www.godhatesfags.com

Okay, I said things will change and they have. It appears the ordinances
that stop Phelps apply to protecting him. That is understandable. Bite boy
has secured private property, to do their performance. A lady is donating
her property to do this. They plan on playing around 11 AM. Also, I would
recommend coming more around 10:00 A.M. not the earlier mentioned 7 AM.

As many of you are aware, he got his fame, protesting and gay bashing about
15 years ago. His big thing now is to protest the funerals of US soldiers,
killed in Iraq. He feels it is God's punishment on the USA.

About Bite Boy. They are coming here from Florida. Band members are US
Marines, who also were stationed in Iraq. We'll they are home now and want
to pay a visit to Mr. Phelps ( they already have been on national news, ABC,
Fox).

Warning: this event is fluid. ( as evidenced by the change over the last
hour.) If you are really interested go to their site:
http://www.myspace.com/biteboy

Some changes already: They can't perform during the services at the church.
The Phelps group is being real secretive about their Sunday services this
week. This isn't a regular event and things can change rapidly, so I
recommend checking out their site.

Okay !!! I arrived in Topeka a little after 10 AM. I found the Westboro
Baptist Church. Not what I expected. It is nestled in a very residential
middle class neighborhood. Sort of a Tudor style type house.
Back to the protest. When I arrived, evidently the injunction came
through. Biteboy ( the band ) was violating a code involving noise level.
This protest had moved to private property, but there was some law about
this. There was news media and police there when I arrived. I might want
to point out, the police, reluctantly enforced this injunction. There were
around 100 people there, mostly carrying anti Phelps signs. A very large
contingent of the Patriotic Guard ( bikers who keep an eye on Phelps and
his group and block them at funerals, mostly vets, I would say Vietnam era)
The band worked out some deal to go to another location. On 21st and
Gage, another piece of private property, the Seabrook Bar and Grill. Now
the best part, not shown on TV.
A police escort for the band down Gage. Lights and all ( like I said, the
cops were sympathetic and did what they could to show support, without
crossing the line). The band set up around 11:00 played till a little
after noon. The crowd was fluid. Ages ranged from small children to some
probably late 60s.
I talked to some of the band members. U.S. Marines in their early 20s.
War vets. Phelps is news to the troops in Iraq !! They were asked by
their comrades to come here and pay a visit ( the band is from Orlando,
Fla. ). We talked a little about Phelps and to be honest, we are all
somewhat perplexed, on why he went after soldiers killed in Iraq.

I'm not perplexed at all. I know why they do it. It's to raise money for their church. See, many of them are lawyers. They almost always have a video camera with them to record everything. They...

you know, Angel's right - I looked at Mamas' pics and just out of curiosity I went to that website - these guys are INSANE! I mean, there's stuff on there about Popes in hell and just craziness.

That's exactly what they're looking for - to make somebody mad enough to where you'll take a swing at them and then they sue you. Surely they don't believe they'll be the only ones in heaven...................if they are, then I'm going staight to hell as fast as I can.

His Angel, the church can't make money from filing criminal charges. You have to file a civil suit to make money. Plus, I don't know that they would prevail. I'm not sure that an attack on the group...

I think they believe what they have been brainwashed into spewing. Yet I still believe it's also about the money. Guess I'll just have to agree to disagree on that point.

I think they make their money through counter suits. AKA they get sued for lets say disrupting the peace, well they win and then file counter suit for false accusations. But I dont think that that...
