This is how editors prioritize stories (especially when the political party they
hate is in power):

"If it bleeds, it leads."

They do what they have to do to sell papers/magazines, or get
ratings. They think people don't want a lot of good news because
hearing bad news makes their own lives feel less hopeless.
Tragedy and death appeal to peoples' morbid curiosity, like traffic slowing down to rubberneck at a deadly car accident.
