Monday June 12, 2:51 pm ET
All-Marine Triathlon & Running Teams Seek Help From Premier Training Facility, Cadence Cycling Multisport Centers

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2006--Cadence Cycling & Multisport Centers, the only facilities of their kind to offer custom training programs, world-class coaches, an on-site dedicated physiological and biomechanical lab, and in-house multi-rider training center, has been chosen to coach and train the United States Marine Corps' (USMC) All-Marine Triathlon and Running Teams. Cadence, a renowned center for cycling and multi-sport, was chosen as the exclusive vendor for the USMC due to their proprietary coaching methods that will be used to create intensive training programs specifically for the teams.

Last year the 18 member All-Marine Triathlon team placed third at the Armed Forces Triathlon Championships held at Naval Base Ventura County, CA on June 19, 2005, behind the Army and Navy. The USMC chose Cadence in September 2005 to help the All-Marine Triathlon Team prepare for the grueling 1,500 meter swim, 40k bike ride, and 10K run at the 2006 Armed Forces Triathlon Championship. By March 2006, the Marine Corps Sports program began searching for a new running coach to lead the Marines to victory at the Marine Corps Marathon and Armed Forces Cross Country Championship. After several months of outstanding results with the Triathletes, Cadence became the official coaching service for both programs.

All-Marine Triathlon and Running Team's program manager Capt. David Litkenhus said, "We look forward to working with these world class coaches. We know that the skills and philosophy we learn are going to make our team into a power house."

"We are honored to be selected by the Marines to train their triathlon and running teams for the upcoming championships," said Matt Heitmann, co-founder and president of Cadence. "Cadence provides exclusive personalized training programs for individuals at all levels, from world-class athletes to avid amateurs and weekend warriors interested in weight loss, general health and improved performance. Our extensive and talented coaching network allows us to be current with the latest advances in training research and protocols in all three triathlon disciplines- running, swimming and cycling. After thorough physiological and biomechanical testing of each Marine, we will work with them individually to tailor a training program that will maximize each athlete's full potential."

Cadence has a state-of-the-art facility with the latest physiological testing equipment and a coaching staff that holds certifications from USA Triathlon (USAT), USA Cycling (USAC), and the Canadian Cycling Association. The world-class multi-sport facility offers a unique and effective training method developed and practiced by champion triathletes. The USMC team will undergo extensive blood testing and monitoring to determine their lactate threshold and targeted training zones will be developed for each member of the team to maximize their individual performance. Ryan Oelkers, a 15-year racing veteran and winner of the National Track Championship and the prestigious Six Days of Moscow, will coach the Marines in cycling, Laurie Hug, record-setting professional triathlete, will oversee their swimming program, and Joe Puleo, founder of the Haddonfield Running Company and the Philadelphia Running Company, will coach the running team.

The USMC training effort is led by Cadence Vice President of Performance and Partner Brian Walton, a three-time Olympian, who took home the silver medal in the 1996 Olympics, and has held positions as both cyclist and coach on some of America's most prestigious racing teams. He was elected USA Cycling's Developmental Coach of the Year in 2003. In 2005 Walton was chosen as the Executive Cycling Coach for USA Triathlon's U23 Team.
