What defines the name or term Marine?
By Ricardo

We might start with the Marines of 1775.
Than there a few Marines with Lt. Presley O'Bannon
Fighting against pirates at Tripoli
Who gave us "From the shores of Tripoli"
we might look to Marines of 1812,
And the respect given to our Corps,
By the British and Royal Marines,
As the only building not burned down
In Washington, DC was the Commandant house.
Next we might look to the Marines in our war with Mexico in 1847.
Who gave us "To the halls of Montezuma"
We could next look to all the Marines, who fought each other
In a bloody civil war.
We could than look to the Marines of the Spanish American War.
Than a return to Mexico in the early th century.
During the early th century would also see the Corps in China,
Fighting the "boxers",
During World War I we could look to the Marines at Bellau Wood
But I rather look to the Marines fighting Mon Blanc.
Than to the Marines, fighting in all the "banana wars"
Leading us to World War II,
We might look to the Marines fighting and invading several islands
Including Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Instead we chosen the Marines defending Midway Island.
Than we come to Korea of the 1950's
We could chose the Marines of the 1st Marine Brigade
Defense of the Pusan perimeter, or the Marines at Inchon
Instead we chosen the Marines at the Chosen Reservoir.
Next we come to Vietnam,
We might chose the defense of Khe Shan,
We rather chose the Marines fighting in Hue City, Tet of 1968.
Leading us to Beirut Lebanon in 1982-83
Than there was Grenada and Panama
Following that Desert Storm and the Marines fighting.
Brings us to Afghanistan and the Marines fighting and capturing Kandahar City
That was followed by Iraqi Freedom I
We might chose the way all the Marines fought their way up to Baghdad and beyond.
The next scenes might be the fighting during the Battle Of Fallajah.
And how we came on the highest regards and soldiery repute,
That are the foundation of our "ethos"
And how the world see our beloved Corps...

Since I wrote that, I come to the conclusion, that I might have omitted some might fine Marines.
Who demographics place them in an era of "peace" if we ever had such times.
Choosing for World War II, was difficult.
We might have gone with the 4th Marines fight with the US Army in the Phillipines at the start of World War II.
We chose the Marines of Midway Island because they, showed America that we were not defeated and we would fight to the bitter end.

An eagle eyed Marine caught an error on World War II, it should be Wake Island...I had Midway Island, right war, wrong island.
I stand here ashamed and all sorts of colors...
