I'm joining the reserves, and would like to go active duty as an officer after my reserve time. And on the pay charts it has experience as one of the factors. Ex: O-1 with under 2 years experience gets paid 2416.20, an O-1 with over 6 years gets 3039.60. So would my 6 years in the reserves count the same as if it were active duty time?(as far as pay goes)

Another thing I just thought to ask...in the example above, does that mean total experience? Or is that just counting years as an officer?

Thanks

Reserve Component Pay Overview

If you're serving in the Reserves, you're devoting weekends and training periods to our country's military -- and in return, you receive regular drill pay and other pay benefits. Here you'll find everything you need to know about your military pay benefits. Make sure you're getting everything you've earned.

If you are serving as a member of the Selected Reserves, you are eligible for regular drill pay, and might qualify for some special pays.

If you are not a member of the reserve click here to get the scoop on joining the Military Reserves (http://www.military.com/Recruiting/Content/0,13898,rcoe_reserves,00.html).

If you are placed on active duty your pay will be change from Drill Pay to the same monthly pay structure as your active duty counterparts. Check out the 2006 active duty pay charts (http://www.military.com/Resources/ResourcesContent/0,13964,78426,00.html).

Thanks for the attempt..althought none of those answered my question. Unless I missed it.

I understand my pay while I'm in the reserves. I'm referring to pay after my reserve time.

Contact dscusmc on this site. He is an active duty Second Lieutenant more than like in a USMCR status. He may be able to help you with the answers you seek. Good luck!

I think the short answer to your question is yes. I did four years active duty and two years in the reserves. I received E6 over 6 at OCS and I should rate 01E over 6 after TBS and my MOS school. That means that I was given credit for my 2 years in drilling in the reserves. However, my understanding is that you don't get the 01E pay until after you complete TBS and your MOS school. For most officers, thats upwards of at least 9 months (6 for TBS and then at least 3 months for your MOS school).

The purpose of the rule is to compensate for that experience and prevent SNCO's from taking a pay cut if they become an officer. Hope that helps, when you get to your reserve unit, the S1 can probably give you a better answer/explanation.

Negative ghostrider. Unless someone does at least four years and one day, they are not eligible for O1-E. Reserve time would only count if you were on active duty for at least four years and one day of your reserve time.

So then what does it count as?

I'm not sure that it counts as anything. It might push back your AFADBD back or help with credit towards retirement.
