News of Our Armed Forces

Following a proud family military tradition, the two youngest sons of Raymond Larsen and Linda Manzano-Larsen of La Crescenta, Robert and Michael Larsen, have entered the service of their country as United State Marines.

Their father served during the Post Vietnam era with the California Air National Guard and both grandfathers served in World War II. Frank Manzano, maternal grandfather and resident of La Crescenta, served in Germany with the Allied Supreme Command, U.S. Army. Their paternal grandfather, Walter R. Larsen, served in the Navy in the Pacific theater.

Both Robert and Michael attended their mother's alma mater, Crescenta Valley High School and participated in the Junior ROTC and football programs. Recruited at Crescenta Valley High School, they opted to attend Glendale Community College for several semesters where their mother is a professor.

Michael's final semester resulted in being placed on the Dean's Honor list with a 4.0 grade point average. The boys then completed their boot training at the MCRD in San Diego.

Lance Cpl. Michael Larsen completed aviation electronics school at Pensacola Naval Air Station and is with the First Marine Division, Third Marine Air Wing, HMT 303 Squadron at Camp Pendleton. This is a maintenance group for the Helicopter Flight School on base.

Lance Cpl. Robert Larsen completed the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton and is stationed with the First Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines at Camp Pendleton and is currently deployed in Iraq since January.

"We are proud that our sons believe they owe a debt of service to their country and step up to the responsibility for all our collective benefit. And, we are so scared for our son serving in Iraq. And so very, very proud," say their parents.
