The Marine Corps of Museum of the Carolinas is looking for a new commander.

The museum is advertising for a new executive director to replace Gail Walters, the outgoing director of operations and development. She runs the planned museum’s day-to-day operations.

Walters is leaving June 30 because her husband, New River Air Station Col. Glenn Walters, has been reassigned to the Pentagon.

The museum has been running ads for the job in The Daily News and on monster.com. The ad asks applicants to have excellent organizational and communication skills, more than 10 years of professional leadership experience with a background in finance, business administration, marketing or fund-raising and knowledge of the Marine Corps and museum operations.

“I think we’re looking for somebody who’s really familiar with Jacksonville,” Walters said.

“And we’d really like somebody who’s very steeped in what it means to be a Marine.”

Walters said Monday the museum had received between 20 and 30 resumes. A personnel committee will meet to select a new director.

“They will get together, review all of the resumes, create a short list and call a selected number in for interviews,” Walters said.

Walters said the new director will lead the museum through a critical time of fund-raising and planning.

It’s unclear when a decision will be made, Walters said.

The deadline to apply is Thursday. Anyone interested should submit a resume, cover letter and three references to the museum, 626 New Bridge St., Suite 209, Jacksonville, N.C. 28540 or to mcmuseum@bizec.rr.com.
