Matthew Weant, 23-year old son of John and Cindy Weant of Moberly, will graduate May 26 from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He will join the U.S. Marine and will hold the rank of 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corps as he trains the next six months for TBS officer's training at Quantico, Va.

A graduate of Moberly High School, Weant said upon completion of his officer's training he will serve his country over seas and he is interested in serving with the infantry in the Middle East.

His father John served in the Marines from 1962-65, and during his last three years he served with the 3rd Battalion MEF Headquarters Group in the South Pacific. Weant is currently senior vice commandant with the Mizzou Marine Corps League based in Columbia. He also is president and co-founder of the Marine Graduation Foundation, which awarded Matthew Weant with the coveted Mameluke sword. The special and distinctive sword traditionally is awarded to officers of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Matthew's 22-year old brother Stephen is a corporal in the U.S. Marines Corps and currently is at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He will be deployed this September to Iraq where he will serve as a network security administrator for the 2nd MEF Intelligence Group Battalion.
