Get Fit, Don't Quit
Naval Air Station Meridian

Next week our three "Get Fit, Don't Quit" participants will take on some tough marines from Naval Air Station Meridian as part of their task. Their challenge will be to go through a marine workout!

"When it's just sometimes the Marines, our workout entails a little run. We sometimes stop at certain check points and do certain mobility exercises, says Staff Sgt. McGough. "As far as the run goes we have some trails that vary in miles from 3 to 4 to 5."

Aside from running, a typical marine workout includes pushup receptions.

"Our workouts are designed specifically for combat conditioning," says Capt. Charles Bercier who is the executive officer of Marine Schools at NAS Meridian.

Although perhaps somewhat intimidating at first, the marines are offering Suzanne, Tyrone and Kenya this advice.

“It is tough for the beginner. We didn't all become physically fit overnight. It takes time to do it," says First Sgt. Michael Chapple.

Although perhaps tough, they go on to say that the workout is not impossible.

"It's nothing to be afraid of," says Captain Bercier.

However, when it comes to what they can expect Staff Sgt. McGough says, "They can expect to lose some calories that day, a lot of calories."

That's why they’re advising Suzanne, Kenya and Tyrone to drink a lot of water and energy drinks between now and the challenge. Oh, and as for Tyrone's Honey bun fetish they say na...na...na....he can't have those but instead.

"Adopt good nutrition. Eat carbohydrates for energy. You're going to need that. That's your fuel! Have a good meal the night before the workout but not a meal that's too heavy."

"I think they'll feel it for a couple of days afterward," says Captain Bercier, "but that's just what we do!"

"In the beginning they'll fell it in all of their ham strings and gluteus maximus areas," says Staff Sgt. McGough.

“We're ready! We're gonna tear'em up," says First Sgt. Chapple.
