Strong and True

We can pick her out anywhere,
even in a crowded mall;
She's the one with shoulders back,
chin up and standing tall.

Nothing out of place, no loose buttons or
irish pennants to be seen.
She would not stand for it; after all
She's a Marine.

She has earned her right,
suffering with bruises and pain;
the training is not easy;
She made it and has the right to remain.

Though brusied and battered and
at times her body bent,
she pushed herself forward, her own pain
forgotten, as she stops to help a friend.

No matter what they pushed her way,
she didn't relent.
Because she was bound and determined
to make it to the end.

Pushing forward, at times against
all odds, doing it all and more.
What's inside that drives her is
"Esprit de Corps".

So when you see her standing in her
uniform of blue or green,
keep in mind she belongs to an elite sisterhood
that accepts only the Few and the Proud.

Always standing strong and true,
For she is a United States Woman Marine.

It was given to me by one of the veteran's I represent. I came from an issue of the Leatherneck magazine. It has a picture of the Woman Marine statue in Quantico on one side and the poem on the other. I have it on the shelf behind me in my office on the right side of my retirement certificate. I look at it when I get a little overwhelmed. It pick me right back up.

I also have a picture of Private First Class Ralph H. Johnson on the wall in front of my desk, behind where the veterans I serve sit. He keeps me focus on my goal of representing the veterans who have given a part of themselves for this country. Sometimes I swear I can hear him say "Stay Motivated Marine!". I just smile.

I've read this before somewhere on the net. I love it!! There were other things speaking of WM's too. I don't where it was at though. I just googled drill instructor and hit images and then I click on the picture. I do that for just about every picture and at the bottom is where that poem was. Hmmmm?
