2nd Mar Div concludes hazing investigation

The 2nd Marine Division completed a command investigation Wednesday into allegations that one of its junior Marines had become the target of hazing by others in his unit, according to a division spokesman.

Pfc. Gregory Houk, a rifleman assigned to the Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, alleged that lance corporals in his unit beat him, stomped him and made him take a three-hour cold shower that left him on the brink of hypothermia, according to a May 10 CBS news report.

Division spokesman 1st Lt. Barry Edwards said the division takes all hazing allegations seriously and that an investigating officer was promptly appointed to the inquiry, which began “late last week.”

He said the investigating officer concluded the inquiry on Monday and turned the findings over to the officer who initially ordered the investigation.

The results of the investigation have not been released, Edwards said.
