Funeral services for retired Marine general
NEWS SUN STAFF REPORT

WAUKEGAN — A visitation for Jack Frisbie, 80, of Waukegan, a retired major general in the Marine Corps Reserve who died last week in a Gurnee nursing home, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.

Frisbie was a combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted in the Marines as a private in 1942 and was commissioned a lieutenant just before the Korean War.

Frisbie stayed in the Marine Reserves after his active service and was nominated by President Carter for promotion to major general in 1978. He retired from the Marines in 1984.

He commanded infantry and aviation units in the Marines, including the 4th Marine Air Wing at Glenview Naval Air Station, the 52nd Marine Amphibious unit, 2nd Battalion of the 24th Marines and Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron of the 4th Marine Air Wing.

Frisbie had a long career in banking and finance in the Chicago area, holding positions with John Nuveen & Co., Borg-Warner, MFS Securities and Wellington Management. He was a graduate of Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and studied economics at the Wharton School of Finance in Philadelphia.

Frisbie served on the board of Victory Memorial Hospital, was president of the Armed Forces Council of Chicago and he once served as president of the Lake County Young Republicans. He retired from business in 1993.

Survivors include sons Tim of Hollywood, Fla., and Michael and daughters Cindy and Sallie.

Frisbie will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
