Deployed from the USS Bataan and arriving in Afghanistan with a heavy backpack, a U.S. Marine dons his backpack by laying his back on it. The next steps are to roll to one side and rise up from all fours. Photo by Chief Photographer's Mate Johnny Bivera, USN
Bivera's notes: "I feel this guy's pain. For some of us, this is the only way to get this pack on when there's no one around to help. It's a strange photo, but for those that work with heavy packs, we understand."

I remember that position well, you look like a dead cockroach until you hit all fours. Great pic. Why does my back hurt all of a sudden? :)

Figures. Instead of helpin', a squid would say, " I gotta get a picture of this!"

On the other hand, a squid woulda just got in the way, I reckon.

Doesn't matter how ya do it, that pack'd have ya in a sweat in no time.

Gotta feel for that guy! I would say "I feel his pain" but I don't. Us Wingers let the helo's carry the heavy stuff. :)

I packed one or two of those on Dets fer abit.

BUT...mostly we'd carry them from the barracks to someone's car, then from the car into the hangar to a GSE tractor or a trailer...THEN out to the bird! LOL.
