WASHINGTON - Active duty military personnel, veterans, reservists, National
Guard members, and their families are now just one click away from hundreds
of web sites containing information about programs and services available to
them, thanks to a new Internet gateway developed by the U.S. Department of
Labor.
Known as the e-VETS Resource Advisor, the web site can be accessed at
www.dol.gov/elaws/evets.htm <http://www.dol.gov/elaws/evets.htm>. Users can
choose from categories such as job search skills and tools, employment
listings, career assessment tools, entrepreneurship, federal employment,
education and training providers, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
benefits, State veterans benefits, military records, veterans service
organizations, housing, and financial assistance.
"When I came out of the military, I had to search all over to find out what
benefits I qualified for," said Frederico Juarbe Jr., assistant secretary of
labor for veterans employment and training. "Now anyone with access to the
Internet can easily locate programs and services to help them become
successful in the civilian economy."
e-VETS allows users to customize their selections by selecting personal
categories including whether they are a disabled or military conflict
veteran, their branch of service, their sex and/or age, and if they have any
barriers to employment. This information allows e-VETS to produce a list of
Web site links of specific interest to an individual user.
e-VETS was developed by the Labor Department's Veterans' Employment and
Training Service (VETS) and is part of the department's "e-laws" project
which brings information on regulations, programs and services to customers
through the Internet.
For more information on e-VETS, contact the Veterans' Employment and
Training Service on (202) 693-4745.
