Portsmouth Marine Honored for Dedication to his Fellow Marines

A Portsmouth Marine wounded in Iraq has received the Navy and Marine Corps's Achievement Medal.

Corporal Jason Hanbury works at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center now. A year ago, he was wounded in Iraq.

"We were eating chow, and some guys decided to shoot some rpg's at us. So, we strapped on and went out on patrol looking for them. I noticed a car that I thought looked suspicous."

Corporal Hanbury says as he circuled the car, it blew up, wounding him.

His curiosity about the weighed down trunk of the car stopped the foot patrol. That action saved the lives of fellow marines.

Even after being wounded, he continued to work. He says he took pictures and pointed out an individual that could have been connected.

Corporal Hanbury is modest about his recent recognition.

"I really didn't think it was a big deal. I think less attention should be on me, and more should be on guys that are over there doing it now."

Hanbury also received the Purple Heart Medal for his injuries.
