I will be enlisting within a year or two after finishing the schooling my parents require of me. I have been working out all my life and am asking what exactly I should be doing mentally and physically to stand out in excellence when I enter boot camp. I know it is one of the most difficult things a person can do and that is why I'm doing it. Any specifics from people that have been there would be greatly welcomed, and thank you for your service to our country.

First of all,

From my personal knowledge from word of mouth of my buddies in the Corps and Former-Marines, you don't want to STAND out in boot, you want to be ONE with the group.

Boot camp is not something you want to be the center of attention in, especially when the attention is coming from a big, mean, grean machine of a Drill Instructor spitting words, quite literally, into your face.

Anyway, You said you were lifting all your life, that is good. The object is not to be BIG, but to be LEAN and good to go in cardio as well. So make sure you're doing alot of running.

I know Smalcom, the neighborhood PT expert, who is a Poolee is someone you may want to get with and talk to.

Best of luck, I'll let others respond and give some advice as well.

there's really no way to prepare - the working out is good but.................at least you'll be able to handle the physical part. The mental part is up to you. Just don't take anything that is said to you personally - remember, the DIs job is to break you down and then build you back up to Marine standards.
