While in MOS school of over so many weeks you are able to have family (children, wife, or husband) move with you. My question is what are the accomodations? is it living on base? if not do you get help for paying off base? How long until they can or cant? after boot camp, how hard is it to claim dependents? Thanks.

It's only if your school is for more then 30 days. It's off base and you have to pay for the move yourself.

are you able to leave base then? to live there? if your married and have children they get the benefits right?

Yes, you can leave base. Hell, you have to because the USMC ain't going to put you in base housing for only a few weeks until your school is up. And as long as they have documentation your wife and child should get benefits from your first day of boot ( IIRC ).

Also i hope to be married after boot but before school how long does it take for the military to recognize wives children? just curious. Thanks for your help.

I believe you should get Basic Housing Allowance, reg. pay which is like 1100 bucks a month, and health benefits while in boot.
I'm not sure if the DOD will provide care for a step child. Is it your child also?
I read about all this a while back so don't take everything I say to be 100%.

You should also get basic allowance for subsistence which is like another $180 a month or so.
And BAH depends on where you are. It ranges from around $800/mo in some places to $1400/mo in some places.

I didn't think the food allowance would be paid since we'll be being fed in boot camp.
My BAH is only $642!!!

Food allowance wouldn't be paid while in basic, but I think depending on the MOS school it might be then.
Dunno though.
Yeah, BAH is based on prevailing rent costs in the area, so if you are in a cheap area, you don't get as much as an expensive area.

Rdy2gopoolie,
In regards to your question about dependents. If the child is not biologically
yours (step-child), but will be living with you and you will be providing the majority of financial support, the child can be considered a dependent. You would of course have to provide documentation for everything.
If your married and she's already your dependent then all you will need to do if you have a baby is call DEERS and tell them your baby has been born.
If you are not married but have a baby, call DEERS and to enroll your child.
I would call DEERS with any questions about dependents and enrollment; and if you are trying to enroll a step child call Legal as well. Just to CYA.
