View Full Version : Reserve question
Im planning on joining the reserves and hope to eventually augment to active duty. If for some reason I cant can I switch to active after my 4 years? I am 26 years old now and worried I will be past the cut off age but I heard something about the Marines deducting the years you serve from your age or something like that does anyone know?

dont worry about the age thing. i was 24 when i joined and turned 25 in bootcamp. there was someone who was 29 in my platoon.
as far as the switching goes, i'm not tooooo sure how it works, but i know you can. however i heard from one Marine that it was easier to go officer than go active. when you go reserve you have 6 years in 2 out for a total of 8 years. if you go active you sign for 4 years in 4 out. if for some reason you cannot switch you should be able to when you re-enlist after your 6 is up, which might be what i end up doing.

Active duty is really 8 years .. 4 in and 4 inactive .. i would call a recruiter and ask if you did reserve first .. my bet is that it would take time off active
