I've been debating a lot lately about switching from Active Duty to reserves so that i can stay around my family the fire department and still have time for a little bit of school. As of now i ship 20060619 to MCRD SD and my recruiter says there are no available mos's to switch to as a reservist. Any advice for how i can make it work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jack ass Marines? A.P. - why didn't you just go reserves to start with? Why didn't you choose another branch? Good thing you're not around a bunch of "jack ass" Marines all the time - you would be the first one to get a sock party when you fell asleep. Bonehead weekend warrior wannabe!

trust me, youll be a lot happier individual not being around jack ass marines all the time.
I thought Marine's were suppose to be about teamwork, not individuality:mad: ? There are many jackasses in many branches of the Military and in Civilian life, who are you to judge all Marines by what maybe 1 or 2 guys have done to you (perhaps disservingly:idea: ). I know Im just a wannabe at the moment and your the one who has earned the title and all, but I think you missed an important part of being a Marine, teamwork not individuality.
I know its an old addage and somewhat childish to say but hey you have to use it in childish circumstances,"it takes one to know one". Ill let you figure out that one.
Sorry poolee911 about the slight change in topic:D, to answere your question, when you enlist in any branch of the military, you are actually enlisting for 8 years. After you serve your active time, you will become a reservist for the remainder of your 8 years, unless you reenlist for active duty, So if i were you I would have just enlisted for the minimum active duty time, but I know it might be too late for that. Im sure you will be able to work out something, if not now, maybe when you get out of bootcamp.

Ms Green, you may as well lay off. You're just wasting your time and upsetting yourself. The moderators, who ARE watching this thread, will soon come down on this character and off he'll go.
No telling what his/her MOS is, but I'm not so sure I'd like my back covered by someone who doesn't like 'jack-ass Marines', whatever is meant by that remark.

here, i'll give you a response thats.. on topic :)
the need for MOS's change all the time, i'm not sure if you can do anything about changing your ship date, but if you can, maybe you want to wait. you can also look at a different MOS, there are a lot of good ones. i'm not sure MOS you chose, but i know my unit is looking for alot of different ones. let me know your MOS and i'll see if my unit needs it, or one similar.

Pretty much all of my best friends are "Jack ass " Marines. No worries....the 10% can say what they want to also.

You're right big Al - he probably had to go in the Corps to keep his ass outta jail anyway.

AP...I havent even spoken to a recruiter yet...Ive learned that from life experience and through my "research" into being a Marine...Wow...there are alot of names I would like to call you right now...but being a person who has more class than that I wont. And where in my quote did I ever say people dont lie, cheat, and steal in the Marine Corps??? I know that people lie, cheat, and steal its part of human nature and no mater what you do their will be people doing that....
So yea If you want to talk about how bad your life is in the Marine Corps, talk to people who might give a flying F*** because it is apparent to me and hopefully to you, that no one here does.

AP - just out of curiosity - Why did you join the Corps? Why didn't you go reserves (as you say you would have preferred)? Why do you hate the Corps so much?

uhh My names Alex, I am not telling you what I think of you, Where did I tell you what I think of you?, you are advertising to all of us what you think of the Marines, on a Marine Corps forum and you dont expect someone to tell you what they think of you??? do you really expect to get any support? oh and my research is null and void because of people on this site??? These people have and are going to experience what I want to experience, so how does that make it null and void??? If anything that makes it more substantial... And I dont know sh--, your right...because I am wasting my time arguing with someone that whines about how bad his life in the Corps is....and if you know the facts like you said in your above quote, then why dont you enlighten the rest of us with your abundance of knowledge? I would love to hear about what some "jack-ass Marines" did to you...maybe it will give everyone a good laugh?
lithium, i agree with AP on this one. YOU are in no place to argue with him. you have NO experience with the Marine Corps. if MARINES want to argue with him, that's fine because that's their place to do so based on their experience. so put a sock in it and leave this argument to Marines.

I got to agree, he's the Marine. He's got the title, he has the place to complain if he wants to and say what he wants on the matter of the Corps, because it IS his Corps too.

i dont know who fed you this line of horse ****, probably your recruiter, but its not candy land, its not magical, and people do steal, lie and cheat in the marine corps. SORRY MOTIVATORS
No, at this point^^^ I could care less about whether or not he has a title...Ill respect him if he respects me...I didnt come into this community to pi** people off and disrespect the Marines or the title in any way, But I will sure as He*l defend myself....Im going to fight back when someone disrespects me or my decision...the Marine Corps way is to stand and fight, well I might be a wannabe right now but I will still stand and fight.
I am in no way trying to disrespect any of the Marines here...I have alot of respect for them, and even more respect for the polees that have made the decision to defend their country in these contraversial times. Within the next 3 months i will be able to proudly say that I am a poolee in the Marine Corps.
the problem is that you DON'T get it. when you're Drill Instructor calls you "a little f*g boy", you can't reply with "that isn't what you're wife thought". you're doing the same thing. you don't mouth off to Marines.
i've got a big mouth too, and i sure as hell don't take crap from other people-- but you need to understand is the "Marine Corps way" is to shut your d*mn mouth when someone (being a superior) tells you to.
now if you've got any common sense (my confidence in you isn't high) you will drop this thread and learn from your mistake. you're only digging yourself in a deeper hole by being stubborn.
THAT BEING SAID, i'd really like more elaboration from A.P. about why he doesn't like the Marine Corps, or anyone who feels the same way.
