COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho A group of retired Marines wants to rename the Coeur d'Alene Airport for a World War II pilot famous for shooting down 28 enemy planes and spending 20 months in a Japanese prison camp.

The veterans say Gregory "Pappy" Boyington should be honored, especially after some students at the University of Washington in Seattle objected to a memorial in his honor because he had killed people during the war.

Boyington was a member of the legendary Flying Tigers of China squadron and portrayed on the 1970s television show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" by Robert Conrad.
